TANK - Roadhog / Winton / Zarya (hazard too, but he just came out so ignore that)
DPS - Echo / Sojourn / Symetra
SUPPORT - Baptoste / Lifeweaver / Lucio
All have ZERO collaborative skins and ZERO mythic AND ZERO custom weapons.
Junkerqueen, Roadhog, Sigma, Winton, Zarya, Hazard (just dropped) Echo, Hanzo, Sojourn, Symmetra, Ana, Baptoste, Lifeweaver, Lucio, and Mercy, All have zero colab skins while REIN HAS TWO MYTHICS (WEAPON AND NOW SKIN) HARD LIGHT HAMMER AND FOUR COLLABS LOL! ( that’s the same amount of collabs as Kiriko but rein has more if you count the weapons )
Why don’t you let ALL players get cool skins on their favorite characters rather than making a Rein main (that’s me) burn around 300$ because you prey on someone’s need for collecting one of everything for their favorite character. How Lucio was not Soundwave or Tsuyu will never make sense to me.
Rein, mercy, kiri sell skins like crazy. Makes financial sense to make and sell more skins for those heroes. Every hero still gets skins, just some get more than others.
makes me kinda wish we could purchase votes on what new content they should make. whatever has the biggest votes (cash made) gets made and then the cycle continues.
would give the buying customers more agency. Ok i see myself out the door now.
Literally saw Mercy player on TikTok with the same “problem” of there being too many skins being released for their hero so their wallets hurt…
Like don’t buy the damn skins, not hard since they aren’t FOMO due to the shop rotating. Also there is secret a way to get skins with codes.
Also to OP. Popularity sells. Blizz has rules when it comes to skins, which is that if a hero is popular and/or sells well, they will make skins for them.
Skins are a product that they are trying to sell. It’s as simple as that. They look at skin sales for heroes and make skins based on which heroes sell the most skins.
There’s literally no use complaining. Their motivation is to make money on skins, so they make skins that will make them money. If you want that to change, go ahead and break capitalism, but until you do, this practice is here to stay.
I feel bad for the Rein mains. He has so many amazing skins and 2 weapon choices that override the skin weapons. How does one choose what skin and weapon to use?
I am a mercy main and I do wish they’d give her fewer skins in favor of giving other heroes more, but I know why they aren’t. Whenever a mercy skin releases and that day I join any mercy parkour map or mercy boxing lobby most of the players in there bought it even when it’s a recolor.
I slightly disagree with this list, decontextualized only to the “skin collabs” factor or several forgotten characters. some mention / correction:
TANK:
Zarya: we agree on this, it’s really shameful how her style isn’t explored properly. She maybe only has one legendary skin from the battle pass (apocalypse) but everything else is recolor;
Wrecking Ball: i think it’s absolutely wrong to leave the hamster out of the list: almost all of his skins are total recolors, and everyone probably remembers the Diablo one as interesting. The collab skin with Cowboy bebop is absolutely awful for a dog and shows nothing unique. His only legendary skin shop? recolor time! the hamster needs more interesting skins, not just “cute onesies”.
Ramattra: it’s weird to include this, but after his first year, this hero started to have very few new skins and a lot of recolors (including one from the battler pass, poseidon). The exception is the Transformer skin, but technically it’s the first new skin after practically a year of zero news for him. a bit weak in quantity.
Winston: I partially agree. The problem is very similar to Ramattra’s, but worsened by the fact that the concept designs after the alien skin are… boring. and the time to see the Siege skin was really excessive;
I eliminated Roadhog from your list. He actually has a lot of skins, even though shop. often isn’t perceived as good because he just… has some weak concept designs (like polar and kaiju)
DPS
Venture: Obviously. Sorry, but a collab doesn’t make up for the fact that S/He’s a terribly ignored here.
Hanzo: It’s weird to include him in this list because numerically he has a lot of legendary ksins. But if you look at them very carefully, almost all of the ones that came after the first year of ow2 are… recolors. recolors of legendary skins. And the mythic skin (along with the orisa one) is extremely disappointing in customization.
Junkrat: I’ll tell you this in a very famous meme: https://y.yarn.co/00b1ef65-3810-4162-a536-b7e2d561ea26_text.gif He literally has TWO truly legendary skins and the rest are just variant hats. Shameful.
I’m eliminating all three of the characters you mentioned from your list, because Symmetra and Echo started getting good skins in the second year of the game while Sojourn has good skins… but terrible epic recolors. and the lack of “fantasy” skins makes she seem monothematic.
Support
Baptiste: 100% agree. all the skins are forgettable and are too few for 2 years of ow2.
Lucio: I agree slightly but not too much. Like Ramattra, Lucio doesn’t show up much with interesting skins anymore, and there are too many new recolors around.
I’m just eliminating lifeweaver from your list because like Symmetra and Echo, LW is getting the right attention with the right concepts. She’s still struggling to get good epic recolors, but the legendaries are extremely good.
for everything else: Kiriko, mercy and Reinhardt should be denied new skins for at least 16 consecutive months, shamefully omnipresent.
indeed, a special condemnation for kiriko: TWO YEARS without skins for her, not even epic ones. it is unacceptable that in just 2 years she has the same amount of legendary skins as Tracer (the game’s mascot) in 6 years of ow1. and 3 collabs. and a mythic skin. terrible.
From what I heard, monetization sucks in that game too. Just like all these free to play PvP games. I have no doubt they will make more skins for their more popular heroes, but time will tell.
There’s no time limit in completing the Battlepass. You can complete them whenever you want. But the chance to buy the access is limited. But once purchased, you can complete them anytime. No FOMO.
The Battlepass only cost $5
Less filler rewards
You have the option of which one you want to unlock first, because daily/weekly missions don’t give XP as rewards. You don’t progress the BP by XP. They reward you with BP currency and you can use it to unlock the item of your choosing.
I do agree that the bpass sounds better in terms of being able to complete it when you want. From what I’ve heard they are 10 dollars, not 5. Only the first is 5 because it’s shorter than others.
As for less filler, I don’t know enough to comment on that. For many people skins is the only real thing that matters, so everything else other than skins and currency, is filler.
