Lately I’ve seen that in this community they keep calling any new game that comes out a copy of Overwatch, such as Smite 2, Gigantic, Marvel Rivals, The Finals, etc. And some other things that I have seen that are repeated a lot, and that I find very hypocritical on the part of this community, so I decided to make this post to point out a couple of things so that these comments will decrease.
To begin with, I want to deny the idea that Overwatch is an original game that invented a genre and that all other games copy it, this is simply false, there were already many games with the same ideas that Overwatch has long before the game existed, the best known example is TF2, but there were many others, for example, Gigantic, which was announced in 2013 under the name Raid, and which had several betas, alphas, etc. since July 2014, which is several months before Overwatch was announced
h ttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxo51iTR1-4&ab_channel=GiganticOfficialGameChannel
At that time there were already all the characters from Gigantic: Rampage Edition that are currently being accused of being copies of the OW characters, Gigantic RE is a re-release, it is not a new game, and there is no evidence that its developers have copied Overwatch, it is more likely that it is OW that took inspiration from Gigantic
I don’t even make sense about Smite, they aren’t even the same type of game, it’s been 13 years since Smite 1 came out, Smite 2 doesn’t even do anything to resemble Overwatch, on the contrary, the game removes the things they had in common like the passives for each class, at most some skill kits could be compared, but all the characters in smite 2 were already in smite 1
In the case of The Finals, I’ve seriously searched, but I can’t find a reasonable similarity, for the number of people I’ve seen say that the game is a copy of Overwatch, I’ve even seen big OW streamers think that

In the case of Marvel Rivals it is much more complicated, but to begin with I find the number of people saying that the game is made with AI very hypocritical, when there is no evidence of that, and even more so because those who say that are Overwatch players. 2, which has already used AI several times
h ttps://twitter.com/OverwatchLATAM/status/1756362398401790034
and OW developers have admitted to using AI to design characters, maps, skills, etc.

but I haven’t seen anyone criticize OW for this, but I do see people in this community denigrate other games for supposedly using AI even though those games have never actually used AI, they also do this to other games but the case of Marvel Rivals is the one that is most often repeated lately
I have also seen many people say that Marvel Rivals is a trash copy of OW, but I repeat OW is not original, these types of games with these abilities already existed long before OW, the game has not been released yet, and I still do not see any character to which it is valid to say that it is a copy of an OW character, I know that this community loves to shout every time a character with some similarity comes out and point it out as a copy, but they say nothing when OW brings out characters very similar to the ones characters from other games, so I will post videos of characters similar to some of the Overwatch characters that came out before their counterparts, to demonstrate how hypocritical this community usually is when judging.

You can’t see it in the video but she is much more similar to Ana, with skill upgrades she can also heal allies with her gun shots and other things.

You can’t see it in the video, but if you turned into a spaceship while flying, they did the same ground attack that Wrecking Ball has, and in later updates he fires with both weapons permanently and his shots stopped being projectiles.

I clarify that I am not saying that OW copied these characters, just that they are similar and that perhaps the OW developers could have taken inspiration from these characters, although I have no doubt that if any of these had come out after their Overwatch counterpart, a good part of this community would have called them copies, and I have no doubt why some of these characters were called copies even though they came out first.
