you can’t “get better” when your only games are filled with people of a way higher skill level. how about instead of putting the blame on the player we put it on the developers of the game who are failing to uphold a balanced matchmaking system
Right but actually putting that statement into practice you clearly end up with more games facing gm opponents, than you would if you were playing ranked
it can and does happen in ranked too, maybe not as much but you can’t leave a ranked match if the matchmaking hasn’t worked in your favour. in QP you at least have the option of putting yourself out of misery
yeah, you can that’s how you improve. Find a way to win against players who don’t allow you to make a bunch of mistakes. Playing against bad players just makes you good against bad players. There is only so much you learn if mistakes are never punished.
My dude, “find a way”? This dude is not going to suddenly unlock his potential like an anime protagonist and whip out the MLG snapshots ultra instinct mode because he got sat in the spawn room all game. People improve incrementally and this idea that you’re going to make the leap mid-game to be GM level is completely divorced from reality.
I never said that. Plus there are tons of characters that allow you to be useful no matter what rank because of how easy they are.
If you want to complain about GM players ruining your games then learn from the gm players. The replay tool is free to use and there are thousands of videos for each character showing you how to play a hero properly.
But if all you’re going to do is play against a gm player and instantly decide there is no point in trying because they’re better even though we pretty much all start off on the same playing field then that’s on you. They’re not ruining the game you just refuse to improve.
+most of the people in diamond-GM were plats or diamonds before OW2 so they’re not even that good
I don’t imagine there are any characters so easy they’re going to let a gold player stomp a GM, personally. Maybe that’s just me but I’ve yet to hear the casters in the Overwatch League all abuzz over how this dude started playing the game two days ago but his Brig has just been fire.
I don’t think everybody is playing this game to be the very best like no one ever was and maybe this take is just going to make your head explode but I don’t think they should just be expected to have to be either.
I think you should be able to enjoy a close match no matter what your rank is and this whole “this is your educational opportunity” bs at the end of the day is just an attempt to justify bad match making. Like you said, there are “thousands of videos” out there “showing you how to play a hero properly”, so if a person really wants to improve they could go seek those things out and get on that and get the positive reinforcement of seeing their numbers go up instead of just getting a paddling.
I’ve been trying to unlock weaver cos I was curious, but man it’s such a terrible slog. Normally I just bail whenever see masters+ as it’s boring (win or lose) but as you don’t get any xp I’ve had to stick around. Instead I’ve just taken to ending the game as quickly as possible. If our masters+ are better I’ll do my best on the off chance it speeds it up. If losing, I’ll play my weakest hero to ensure I’m don’t inadvertently drag out the game
Judging from everyone else’s reaction, I’m guessing Weaver won’t be enough to keep me wanting to play until blizzard do some extensive fixes to the matchmaker and the alt/smurf account issue
it’s not about stomping it’s about holding your own so you can play the game. there are a bunch of heroes that allow you to do that.
DPS - Pharah, Echo, Torb, Mei, Sym, Hanzo, and Mcree
Tank - Orisa, Hog, Winston, and Rammatra
Support - Mercy, Lucio, LifeWeaver, and Ana
All of these characters are easy to play and are good no matter what you play into aside from hog and sometimes mei
It’s not about suddenly gaining cosmic insight and becoming the perfect player it’s about playing heroes that allow you to hold your own against players that are better than you
when she first came out yeah, but no one has those expectations.
no one is saying to have to try as hard as you possibly can every game but what I’m saying is if you going to complain about players being better than you in a casual mode where most of them aren’t really trying either then it’s better that you learn instead of complaining about unfair matches that you could easily fix
stomps exist no matter what rank it is so if you think rank changes anything you are wrong. you’re getting stomped even if everyone is of “equal” skill level. matchmaking would just be worse, especially for the people who have high or low elo friends they want to play with in casual. You’re not guaranteed to have fun in every game especially in teambased with different skill characters that multiples game modes all in one. If you’re playing to get that game where each team is neck and neck you’ll be waiting long time.
Honestly I just leave if I see anyone with a Masters+ rank title on QP.
yes its the casual mode but they can’t keep using that to justify the absolute garbage matchmaking this game currently has, I am fine with Diamond and Plat but Masters and GM always end with the opposite side of that high rank player to be stomped and it is not fun in the slightest nor is it educational to be kept in spawn for most of the round.
If I play with my Silver friends that means if you are Plat you are going to be my opponent. That is a fair game. Quick Play is the mode this game made for people who want to play with their friends regardless of rank. If you want a game with only people of the same rank as you then that is what comp is for.
As a gold support, I personally don’t mind it. I’ve played against Master and GM dps occasionally. Sure I lose most of the time, but it does help point out my positioning flaws and playstyle.
The only dps I really can’t learn to improve my positioning from is snipers. I just have to hide in awkward positions to make it hard for her to shoot me without dying, putting her into an awkward position and hoping it create an opportunity for my team to deal with the sniper.
Yeah, it’s my favorite thing to get 6 games in a row against GM players, while matched with 4 Bronze/Silver players, if I even get a full team at all. The matchmaker is a joke, anyone who defends it is even more of a joke.
Since the launch of S3, I get a balanced, fun game maybe 3% of the time. The other 97% is either Hanzo + Widow, 3 GM’s, or I literally just don’t get teammates. Or all three, which happens more often than not. Overwatch 2 was amazing for the first two seasons, why did they need to make it so terrible now?
