Stop hiding the stats of your team

Right now you can only see medals. I know it is meant to reduce toxicity but I think it increases it because nobody can tell that the hanzo with silver is actually doing well. Or when the tracer who has not done an ult all game is doing nothing they cannot talk back when asked to switch because you can see their stats and see how low they are.

There are games where you can see your team’s stats and it doesn’t cause a crisis situation. Please just show a grid and let everyone see the stats in game. You can even keep medals and just show a badge icon next to the number.

It would make toxicity and throwing a LOT worse

The way to know if your team—DPS, Tanks, and healers—is effective is the objective. Are you defending or attacking it successfully? A scoreboard already exists for the objective—it’s at the top of the screen in the middle.

If you ask me, the medals should be hidden until end of game.
Just my two cents as a frustrated player tired of hearing the “but I have gold damage/elims/whatever excuse for not swapping off an ineffective hero.

The thing is, this game is less straight forward than other games, it’s why people already say medals are useless. Everyone is playing a different hero, and every hero has a different role. Putting them all on a single spreadsheet as if they’re the same just encourages people to glance at it and think they’re better or X is the worst without actually thinking about what the numbers actually mean.

Besides, say a player is doing poorly, and you can see exactly who it is… Then what? You still can’t control whether or not they’ll swap, they’ll keep playing what they want to. All knowing does is just pisses you off at that one person, and probably makes you want to (falsely) report them for simply playing sub-par.

medal system and private profiles have done nothing but ruin the game’s competitive mode

Key issue with a scoreboard is that frequently your performance is heavily reliant on your teammates not padding their numbers.

Nonsense, not having stats is what promotes confusion and toxicity. Fact.

Every other game had got it wrong except ow right?

What kind of stats?

For example
Player 1 plays flanker and does a lot of spawn camping. Get lots of kills and damage. But never players with his group. And is never with any team fights.

Player 2 plays a dps that stay near team. Peels a lot, saved his healer many times, flex to counter the highest thread of the enemy. So simply makes sure team fights are won. But player 2 has lesser damage/kills then player 1.

While player 1 would be the first obvious reason your team looses when it goes wrong, but still he got better stats.

Example 2:
A widow get very nice stats on anubis point A , a very high crit % and hit %, with 0 deads since he didn’t get countered and he played save.
On point B, the enemy team starts to play smarter and dont walk into the line of sight of the widow anymore. Since widow stays standing near the choke he cant do much. Meanwhile on the point all fights are now 5 vs 6 since the widow is not doing anything any more. And he refuse to swap. Saying he has good stats at point A. So he is the reason you loose.

Stats are only nice for self improvement. If someone does their job or not can not be seen in stats.

  1. People will stop playing the game they yell at their Hanzo not having Gold Elims, or their Rein not having enough damage blocked.

  2. Just because something works in one game doesn’t mean that it will work in another. This game is filled with people who get toxic over medals so they will be able to be more toxic if a scoreboard is in place.

Why is what your team-mates doing more important than what you yourself are doing? In all honesty when you get to this sort of thinking you are likely hard stuck, and it isn’t because of your team-mates you are stuck…

If you lack the game sense to know what your team-mates are doing, the limited window of what a scoreboard shows isn’t going to help.

Personally I just want to see deaths/10 minutes compared to others playing the same character at my rank and that is to help me measure my performance, not my team-mates.

Every other game with the stats you’re looking for are less complicated than OW. Their stats are “shooty shooty kill kill and die less” which works for the DPS but not the rest of the cast. How do you make stats for the Brig or Mccree who saves their bash/flash to ruin a clutch ultimate? Or a Lucio who saves his sound barrier to negate an enemy ult instead of using it every 5 seconds like a Moira? Or a tank thats making key space for his DPS but cant do dmg himself because they need to shield their DPS?

Theres too many factors outside of kill/death/accuracy to make a scoreboard or public statd work.

100% no stats is making the game uncompetitive.

How can you know when to switch or if some one in a role is filling or throwing?

Right now people quit games after first point bc of this. Theres no accountability people just leave vc and dont care.

I remember back in the day there was anxiety to play the game correctly and stats will bring this back. For god sakes do it

If you can’t stand to lose so much that you need someone to blame and harrass, you need a mirror, not a scoreboard, imo. As long as I can squelch your chat and comms, scoreboard and open profiles are ok by me. It’s going to affect you more negatively than me. I won’t use them, and will be unable to hear your abuse.

They should do experiments with these types of suggestions. Let people queue for a no-medals game, or a normal game. Find out how many people pick one over the other. Then, offer the winner of those two vs a fully visible stats game, and see how many people queue for each. They could then compare the toxicity levels of the matches based on how many reports are received, etc. There’s no reason to bicker and argue about which one would work better, they should just be compared.

Stats won’t fix the “nobody switches” problem of comp. If someones that stubborn about their pick has stats shoved in tjeir face they’ll just tell you to go eff yourself and keep on their bad pick.

To all naysayers of a scoreboard. Just wondering what y’all take on PBSR is? Because if you’re against a scoreboard but in favor of PBSR, it would seem that is putting the cart before the horse.

Because displaying stats has no immediate correlation to anything, where as PBSR does. So do stats matter or not?

False equivilency.

PBSR compares X players to X players.
A scoreboard would compare X players to Y, Z, A, B and C players, but never X.

Different hereos have different expectations. PBSR holds them within that, whereas a scoreboard would encourage players to try and ignore them.

so then you’d be in favor of live scoreboard that just kinda shows how well they are performing compared to their peers?

Like a medal system? Sure.
