It’s a comeback for the love of god. Stop calling it the reverse sweep, a sweep requires your opponent to not get a single win. a reverse of that is that YOU don’t get a single win meaning you got swept.
No
Different games call it different things
Edit: they want to call it a reverse sweep so let them
I think they could improve on it, such as
Reversing the Tide
or
Reversing the Ebb and Flow
it’s a part of the english language, it’s not different from game to game. It has a definition and when people use it wrong it just makes OWL casters and players who use it look like a bunch of idiots.
i mean i get it but i think the way they they re using it in particular is when a team is 2-0 and they need just one win , and the other team instead wins the next one, then the next one, then the next one to take the series. its not technically an accurate term but it kind of feels like it is in that case.
both of these are great alternatives! maybe we should push for the reversing the tides one.
Comeback can imply lots of things, whereas reverse sweep explicitly means getting swept until match point and sweeping in the reverse direction for the rest of the match.
it’s still just a comeback though. you can throw adjectives to comeback to emphasis the greatness of it.
i think they took reversal and sweep and put them together. still sounds wrong. Every time they say reverse sweep i think shut out.
Isn’t this like arguing “Don’t call it a sweep! Call it a shut-out!”, don’t they mean the same?
The cool thing about language is that it evolves as new phrases become common, and old ones are filtered out through non-use. Words find new meanings and they are defined by how they are used and understood.
When I was a kid, “fleek” wasn’t even a work. Now, you’d have to live under a rock to never have seen it used or mentioned.
People constantly misuse correct terms in video games like that. Its especially rampant on WoW where people misuse older MMOPRG terms they have heard used incorrectly and just kept perpetuating it themselves.
It’s like when I hear “Near miss” I’m like
“… So you hit it … but you almost missed”
Nope. Apparently that means you nearly hit it.
I always hated that one, it’s supposed to mean “a miss that was near (close)” but it’s just dumb.
A “reverse sweep” is a very specific term that perfectly describes the situation. Not only should it be kept, it should be applied to physical sports for the cases of comebacks from 0-3 and sometimes 0-2 series deficits.
physical sports already has a word for it, they call them comebacks. A sweep by definition has to have one team with a score of 0. when the score reads 3-2 or 4-3 or whatever it reads when a team rallies and pulls out the victory it’s called a comeback.
out of all things to be mad at, you’re mad at this.
Orientated is not a word. People kept mistakenly using it as one and now it’s technically a word but not in my books!
It’s oriented… ORIENTED!
Summary: I think I’m with the OP on this one?
there’s not a lot to be mad about with overwatch.
is this a joke
