Steam version better optimized?

So anyone else notice any improvements between the Steam and Bnet versions of the game?

Before I uninstalled the Bnet version, I checked my framerate between the two versions and got a 30% increase in framerate (capped at 360: Bnet 270~ Steam 340~).

But not only that, but my game no longer stutters when I open up settings. Anyone else notice anything similar?

might be because of a fresh install

Now that’s something to consider about. Wasn’t planning on installing with steam but if that was true I’d probably do it.

At the least I think I’m going to reinstall and check my frames lol

Do you really think the Steam version has secret optimizations?

No. Now any background tasks that Battlenet might’ve been doing on your system vs what Steam is doing in the background could be making a difference. Me? I always had battlenet close automatically when game launches.

Could also be some oddball result of accessing a different friends list. Outside of that, this is more than likely placebo at best.

I dunno, I’ve had issues with the framerate since launch (chalked it up to the new engine) but technically I’ve had issues since sometime in 2018 with OW1.

That being said, I’ve done at least one clean install of OW2 since October 2022 with no improvement.

Definitely worth a check.

It could also be map specific framerates, I only tried 2 games between the two versions and the modes and maps were entirely different, but I can guarantee that the settings menu stutter on my end was repeatable on Bnet but absent on Steam.

I too have Bnet close upon launch, with no identifiable background operations in effect.

The one thing that I can guarantee for certain is that my settings stutter is gone. No placebo there.

I uninstalled battle.net because of the frequent disconnects and WOW the Steam version is so much smooter!
