Steam version: “Downloading Content” on every launch

Please, how is this bug still a thing?? It’s been two years! For this reason i totally uninstalled the battlenet version and the app itself, deleted everything related to the app and today this bug comes back, on every single launch the game is “downloading content” but it isn’t actually downloading anything at all. The main problem is, this usually takes around 5 minutes to finish!
I am definitely uninstalling the Steam version and going back to battlenet because this is ridiculous!

The message is deceptive – it’s verifying the files. I also have had this issue for AGES. Sometimes it’ll be fine for a while, but then there’s an update and it will flare up and occur EVERY TIME I start the game. Takes up to 6-10 minutes too… good grief. No other game does this for me

I, as well am having this issue for the last 10 days or so. Please fix. I am using the steam version

Does my head in. I’ve had it frequently over the last few months, but in the last 2 weeks it’s been pretty much every session. It takes 2-3 minutes even though I have it installed on an SSD capable of 7000mb read speeds

Uninstall Overwatch, download Battle.net and then re-download Overwatch from there.
I had the same identical problem with Steam but this “method” fixed it.

So the method and “fix” is to ditch Steam and go back to bnet?? Lol, ok…

Overwatch on bnet runs significantly worse than the steam version. Don’t ask me why but the bnet version uses double the ram and stutters like hell on my pc, while on steam it’s smooth as butter. I’m not switching launchers because of that

Feel free to keep using Steam and having to download the content every single time, bye.

Ok, but you understand that what you wrote does not solve the issue right??

There is an option in battlenet to completely close the app as you launch the game. There is no difference in performance between bnet and steam for me personally.

I had this problem with battlenet some months ago so i thought that switching to steam was a solution. Well 3 days ago i had the exact same problem on Steam, always “downloading content” even if the game is updated. I guess there is no fix to this

Its still not on their known issue list, if it isn’t something that directly affects their profit they do not care to fix it.

A way to fix this problem:

Open OW2 installation folder in properties → uncheck “read-only”. If you open properties again, it will still be read-only but will no longer download on startup´.

If doesn’t work, open the common folder in properties and do the same thing about the read-only, but probably will work just doing on OW folder.

still have this issued everyday, makes me wanna give up on the game tbh whats the point if i cant even play it

Hello - I’m sorry this is happening. We’ve been trying to track down what is causing this issue and we could use your help.

  1. When did this start happening?
  2. Can you please provide your Overwatch error logs so we can look into it?

Here is how you obtain your logs: Obtaining Game Error Logs - Blizzard Support - Paste the contents of the Overwatch.txt file in a reply here.

Hi, can you please look into the server issues aswell? “Lost connection to game server” issue

  1. Started happening around 7 days ago, it has happened before as well a few months ago, usually happens after an update is pushed out.
  2. There is no error logs, I have checked with 3 others with same issue and they dont have error logs either, it happens before the game opens every single time without fail.

You can also see in steam discussions topics there are many threads on the same issue seems to be effecting loads of people.

About 4 ~ 5 days ago, no error logs, just the common logs folder.
