Once Overwatch comes to steam, we will have a live publicly available playercount of everyone playing on steam. I think it’ll be neat for seeing trends (Like it’d be interesting to know just how much of the playerbase fell off during the current filler season), but the problem I foresee is that since most of Overwatch’s existing playerbase probably won’t bother to transfer to steam, there will be a lot of idiotic “Overwatch is dead” people disingenuously comparing its player numbers to games that are steam exclusive
This is what I fear the most. I absolutely know the forum will be flooded with threads like “Durrh, look, no one playing!!” while only pointing out Steam’s charts.
i hate running steam on my laptop as it likes to take up processes on the gpu for some stupid reason like when minimized it shouldnt need anything from the gpu at all
People have been complaining about it along with new ui.
TBH i hate steam showing players numbers because people are too judgemental and they never give something a chance when the players are low. It would be nice if there was a good Steam competitor.
Most big games that move from independent clients to steam are husks of their former selves hoping to gain some players through their large userbase and accessibility.
Overwatch is no longer growing at a healthy rate. It’s not getting the word of mouth marketing that drove people straight to their site.
Why else would you let your playerbase go through an alternative client that puts the options of thousands of other games right in your face?
They’ve determined that the reward is greater than the risk.
i think they need to bring back lootboxes and might even need to go back to buying the game but anyone who already has played before they made people pay to play it gets to keep there copy of the game
Just remember that it’s only going to count people playing on Steam.
So what numbers are on Steam aren’t going to represent the total playerbase because Steam won’t be able to get data from non-steam platforms.
Yea. They had a much more sustainable model back then.
F2P is a great way to let people in, but it’s also a great way to invite in plagues like smurfs, boosters, and trolls.
There’s no consequence to inappropriate behaviour anymore. At least before it cost you 60USD to be a jerk.
Yep. And we’ll get tired of pointing out that Steam is only one of the five ecosystems with the game, and is probably the second smallest (only beating out the Nintendo store).
you literally have blizzard admitting themselves that overwatch is declining, lmfao
Overwatch is in decline, players haven’t needed Steam stats to tell that and devs have now admitted to decline in recent months. Steam won’t change anything in the long run. It’ll be a moderate influx of players to make it seem like the game is revitalized and if the quality of matches doesn’t improve it’ll tank even more.
you know these shill is so used to blizzard lying to them that they think when blizzard said OW2 have declining player population is just another lies from blizzard
In their financial statement, Blizz said that the game is losing players. Part of Q2 is summer in America. Meaning more opportunity to play games and they lost numbers. The game is declining.
It declined over the course of the second quarter, the quarter where there was a big update at the start of and then nothing else since. It’s not rocket science. They pushed back all the content from season 5 so nobody is logging in to play season 5
blizzard literally released a financial report proving that’s correct, we don’t need steam numbers. How do you lose a million players from last year pre OW1 when you make OW f2p and release Diablo 4?
yet if the game is so good, you would see people still playing it. its not that season 5 sucks, nor that it doesnt have BIG content. its summer games, new gamemodes, new skins, new balance changes, new content. its not rocket science to know that the game is declining eitherway. it reached up to 32m in december 2022 when OW2 was still relatively new. then it later decreased to 27m, and now to 26m. that is 5-6 million players that stopped playing the game. the game is DECLINING!
