Today I installed, OW 2 on my steam deck, spend like 6 hours to adjust controls so I can easy and fast kill those robots in practice arena to gain feeling like I was on PC. And ye somehow i manage to find best settings.
For PvE content it work well, but than, I went into real game and I notice I cannot hit anything with my S76, not even land a few bullets.
While I have targets with predictable patterns of movements my aim with gyro and joy is working like on PC i cant tell difference at all, i just obliterate stuff fast and precise… but when human controled players start to move around at random pattern and when their size shrink with distance, I simply cannot catch and hit anyhting with Steam Deck build in controller. I really tested every possible preset and setting of controller , played with sensitivities, Its simply impossible to hit anyhing, its not problem with aim itself but with movement of people which controller cannot follow (no matter which settings I make). Later I noticed that Steam Deck version of OW2 counts as PC version, and there is no option for AIM assist.
So question is:
Can hitscan heroes work on steam deck and remain competitive?
If yes what im doing wrong, is there any in deepth guide how to setup steam deck for hitscan like s76? (again i tryed evrything so far which google and forums can offer), feels like nothing can make hitscan viable in PvP
Depends on what rank you are? I can aim the same but I’m in bottom 20th percentile
I was once Platinum at PC, with steam deck controls I simply cant keep movement with gap closy and random pattern move heroes as hitscan. Is there any solution?
I’m high Bronze to low Silver last few seasons of competitive so most people I encounter aren’t that good at movement. The worst encounters I get are enemies with small hitboxes or quick movement like Tracer, Genji, etc. Last time I played S76 on the Deck my weapon accuracy was around 20% to 30% if I remember correctly. Controllers will never replace M+KB so there is no solution.
Honestly, for me the bigger issue is the performance since I struggle to maintain 60fps even on low. It’s a huge advantage for people playing on wired internet connection and high resolution/framerate. We Steam Deck users will never be able to compete at same level but I think we can get somewhat close.
How you setuped your controler for 20-30% aim?
Honestly my aim is sharp, fast and snapy on robots… but vs players I also feel I cannot escape from bad situations like i can easy do on PC. I simply feel out manevuered.
There’s nothing you can do. The only solution is to lose a lot of games so your rank go down or make a new account to get a new rank adjusted to your controller aim style. You need a lot of time and patience to get used to it.

Start out with lower sensitivity and increase it until you are comfortable. You will be playing at huge disadvantage against people with faster connection, higher framerate, bigger resolutions without the benefit of aim assist like on console. I wouldn’t go sniper or ranged to begin with when switching to controller. You should try starting off with characters like Reaper, Winston, Moira, etc. It’ll take time but you will eventually get close to your original rank. My Deck settings have low FOV and low sens so I try to make most my engagements close range.
My only tip is don’t touch competitive on Steam Deck. I only use it for PvE, quick play and arcade. My aim is trash on controller even with that gyro setting turned on. If its competitive I’ll only use my PC. See if you’re better with gyro aiming or controller thumbstick aiming. But if you wanna play competitive on Steam Deck I suggest buying a wireless mouse and keyboard to plug into a usb c to standard usb dock to play with mouse and keyboard on a smaller screen basically.
I held my own weight in Silver as S76 using the Deck’s hardware. He will most likely see a hardcap at some point but I’m not sure where it is for controller in PC lobbies. I wouldn’t discourage people from playing competitive because of their setup. If Blizzard didn’t want or intend it would be blocked from queueing. He probably hasn’t even been placed yet since he mentioned his rank in the past.
