Hi!
I’m not just complaining because I’ve lost a bunch, and I’m not posting because I’m tilted or salty, I GENUINELY think something is wrong… I expect to win some and lose some. NBD, I may even expect to lose pretty often. However, since the release of the most recent mini patch, I’ve lost more than 15 games IN A ROW.
According to Blizzard’s published statements, the matchmaking engine should be matching me such that I have as close to 50% chance to win as possible.
My rank has been pretty stable over the past couple of seasons in mid-silver, and I was actually climbing, and suddenly, unless I’ve somehow lost mechanical skill or game sense, something has changed.
Given the stated 50% chance to win, losing 15 games in a row is nearly statistically impossible. it’s 0.5^15, or a 0.003% chance. Even with an expected variance in skill level and performance from day to day, that seems extremely unlikely,
Not only that, but I’m quite frequently seeing ‘Platinum Challenger’ tagged accounts, and I’m being placed in high gold games despite being mid-silver… (well… I was mid silver, I’m now low bronze)
I don’t think I’m especially great at this game, but something is up. While I think it’s unlikely, I’d like this to be taken a little more seriously than some salty kid complaining because they lost. I want to enjoy this game, I even have fun when I’m losing with friends, and/or when games are close but something is up.

the biggest part of winning is normally mental, if you start a small losing streak and it affects your mental you get on a longer losing streak, which leads to more anger and worse performance until you have a 15 loss streak, also if you went on a long win streak that would have inflated your mmr and if you are playing in lobbies you cant play in you are doomed to go on a losing streak
Thanks for taking the time to reply to my message. I’m no stranger to losing and losing streaks. I was hard-stuck in bronze for YEARS. I’ve been playing for a long time.
This is not that. There has been a fundamental shift in the matchmaking that has been putting me in impossible games. It’s been almost 6 days, and 23 consecutive loses. I’ve been deranked to Bronze 5, and yet still there is a mercy/genji duo that is getting 3-4x the damage of my DPS line, and walking all over us. I will happily admit when it’s me. This is not me.
Since the announcement that PVE is toast, something has shifted, and I’m paying for it. After fighting for literal YEARS to earn a place in silver, and getting toileted back into Bronze, I’m losing my will to care.
me confirms. matchmaker regularly does at least two kinds of, frankly speaking, bad things:
- terrible team balance. instead of placing me into games with lower and lower level of play, it gives me:
- enemy team of around my level of play. not much weaker, but not too strong
- my team of lower and lower level of play
an example: back in OW1 at one point I got a tank who was just jumping onto payload into 1v6 to be instantly killed
seriously? really? more than half a year into game as support, learning and building game sense and this is supposed to be my level?
- outright wrong choices. e.g. giving me as a tank a player who is obviously new to the game versus team of around my level
really? we lost, not a big deal for me personally, but things like this is outright evil. what can the new player learn or understand from it, being continuously farmed by enemy team? what kind of impression do they have after a few minutes of straight up walk-from-spawn-get-killed routine?
This must not happen. ever. Which is why all those “we are working on matchmaking” posts from Blizzard team is, pardon my language, bullSh. Someone in the management is not doing their job and should be fired
