State of comp rn

Why does it feel that 90% of games right now are decided by which tank is willing to counterpick and which one isnt. So many of my losses lately are just someone locking doom against a hog then not being able to make space cause of fear of hook

Fear against hog? Im sure that the enemy team picked like 3 doomfist counters.

I play a lot of ball and all my matchs are about try to play the game againsts hog, sombra, cassidy and ana.

Try playing tank to test that theory for yourself.

I would say its not only tank but a lot of people. Tbh, this has been going on for some time. A lot of people have noticed you have to switch characters to counter and thats fine. But I think people are just tired of grinding to mast all characters

I have I usually just play the counter to the enemy tank and win most my games

Amazing job! I am guess you just dislike it because it is too easy, huh?

I dislike it cause it isnt as mechanically intensive so its not as rewarding for me

Welcome to 5v5 homie

not just a 5v5 thing this was also happening in 6v6 where the enemy team would be running double shield and your team would have like a hog and ball

I personally believe Doomfist is way more mechanically intensive than any DPS or support; however, one tricking tanks is pain. Wouldn’t recommend.

Nah hes a melee shotgun hero not really much mechanics in terms of aim on him there used to be some kind of skill on him when he was a dps with all the rollouts but that kinda died off in OW2

That’s not a case of countering, double shield was just the dominant meta thanks to bad game design lol.
6v6 countering was not as much of an instant game win as it is in 5v5.
Picking Ram into Rein is an instant counter in 5v5, whereas picking Ram into Rein in 6v6 may not be because of Mauga countering Ram, but even that may not be either because the Ram may have a Sigma with him whereas running Ram into Mauga in 5v5 is a death sentence.

yeah but the bad game design hasnt changed so if we go back to 6v6 it will just be the same thing

Except
I literally just explained how countering is nowhere near as effective in 6v6 compared to 5v5
In a Ram/Sigma v Rein/Mauga situation;
Rein counters Sigma
Ram counters Rein
Mauga counters Ram
Sigma counters Mauga
The outcome of the match isn’t instantly determined by the character picks, it’s dependent on who is better.
Whereas in 5v5, running Mauga into Ram is a guaranteed win.

No I get that but I really dont think 6v6 will fix anything. It makes sense on paper but factoring in human nature and people refusing to play properly etc its not guaranteed like how in OW1 you would get an off tank that would just go do his own thing flanking all game feeding

Welcome to the forums!

As a tank player, once in a blue moon I’ll be bested by a tank that I should be able to (on paper) counter. Kudos to that player! That is our skill expression.

We are always countered, it just depends on how many opponents are actively trying to counter us, and their effectiveness. It’s our job to learn how that dynamic works in every match, because it is never black and white.

For example, Sometimes I have to focus the Pharah because nobody else will do it, which leaves me vulnerable to Zarya’s laser. Pharah is the carry by my estimation, but all my support sees is me being repeatedly melted by Zarya.

Yeah I 100% understand that and in the case of Dva vs Zarya sometimes you can just avoid the zarya altogether and kill her teammates but my issues are with the people getting absolutely no value and being hard countered while not swapping and ruining the experience of 4 others

I play a lot of open queue, and counters really are not as significant as they are in RQ.
Like, I’ve run Mauga into a D.va, Sigma, Orisa, Ana, Zen comp before. Hard-countered by all 5 characters, and yet I still won.
Obviously counters will still exist regardless and I had to sweat my tootsie off, but having the two tanks reduces counters effectiveness by a mile.

You could be right I am not saying that I am definitively right either as its really hard to tell since the whole game kinda changed from OW1 in terms of how heroes play but I think going back to 6v6 would not only be very time consuming as the devs would have to rework every tank to work in a double tank format but it would also not be guaranteed to fix it

Quintessential Overwatch, lol. It’s been like that since the very beginning. Part of the issue is the queue system, and then you have things like the battlepass and daily challenges.

Sometimes I think we’d all be better off playing in custom games where we could police the lobby and balance the teams ourselves.
