Saying that Sigma was originally gonna be Mauga doesn’t confirm him for OW2 at release. If it’s some other information you have, would love to get as my google searches found nothing suggesting anything mentioned since Sigma involving Mauga.
This is why you don’t say “I won’t link my info”. Now we know you’ll just “regurgitate” info YOU believe is real without proof.
People saying mauga confirmed are delusional. Until they officially announce it, it is merely speculation.

Okay, so to address the issue, I have not find any articles (Official ones, not sure about reddit) on the exact detail of heroes launch nor the numbers. Most are being assumed that there’ll, here are some sample

So Hana is technically correct that Blizz never really said they’ll officially add new heroes.
But at the same time, I will still stick to my guns that Blizz not releasing new heroes to be really dumb unless they, for some reason, follow the will of HANA.

I can only find old videos and posts from reddit talking about an interview with Jeff in 2019 confirming that at some point the character will show up.
Has there been a newer one?

I believe they stated right after the Sigma launch that they liked the Mauga character and wanted to add him to the game at some point. I do not believe they have mentioned he is an OW2 character.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he was an OW2 character, but nothing official beyond a desire to use him has appeared yet.

Jeff said five to six new heroes at launch. That was a long time ago though, and a lot could change between then and release. Sojourn at least is confirmed.
Not releasing any other new heroes at launch would be bafflingly insane. But ‘bafflingly insane’ is well within the realm of possibility with Blizz to be fair.
They could do a maximillion with mauga, and just have him pop up in comics.
They teased junker queen and mama hong YEARS ago, and nothing.
Yeah feels like more of a soft confirm than a hard one like Sojourn who has been shown and talked about in length.
Just to remind everyone, Brig/Ashe was never ever considered even to be a hero cast but was made into one because of their backstory and how interesting they were (Similar to Doomfist.).
Mauga will get in but when he’ll actually be added is another.

They already introduced mauga as an official character in baptiste story, I’d say he’s a likely hero

They only said they still have plans for Mauga. They NEVER confirmed he would be a new hero for ow2 at launch. The only thing we know are Sojourn and the leak of a axe wielding hero from the blizzcon presentation.
I mean, there may be some more at launch but probably not as many as ppl may hope.
It would be a massive mistake not to have the… 6 or whatever promised, at launch.
But it would also be a mistake to add any heroes, given the history of the overwatch team and adding new heroes to overwatch.
A lose lose situation.

In my opinion fewer than two of each hero per role on launch would be a massive let down and disappointment.
- For people who want to try new heroes, if one is taken by another teammate they still have another new option to try.
- In the time between stopping hero releases and the game coming out, there was room to release six heroes at least, assuming a Spring 2022 launch.
This is the one chance that Blizz can add more supports and tanks to the roster without following the rotation of 1 hero per role again. They need to put at least 2 more heroes for both tanks/support role to even catch up to DPS roster.
