I’m completely on the same page as you. These are a lot of the changes I’ve been wanting as well. Sym doesn’t need a complete rework, and I feel like they’re throwing her away when there’s a lot of potential in her kit.
As far as her ults go, personally I do understand the issues with a stationary, permanent ult which is why I’d like to see her shield gen be temporary, but grant more shields in a smaller radius. Basically like Orisa’s djembe. This removes the issue with Sym having to run away to place her ult and lets her stay with her team. It also makes it less of a priority to destroy because it’ll go away on its own. But absolutely, I feel like shield gen should stay her ult.

The problem w/ sym is she is SLOW and projects almost no damage. it takes her more time just to deploy her turrets then many skills take to recharge in the game. Her projectile is like getting hit by a train you watched slowly approach from 5 miles away. She is so easily countered. There are TONS of options to make her much more viable without throwing away what makes here different then every other character. Her ULTs are very powerful but having it stationary makes it not worth bringing your team down to 5v6 trying to defend it and the trade off to get her ult is often not worth it either. I love sym as she is very different and requires some thinking to play well, not just your usual auto pilot FPS gameplay.
As a character that projects light WHY is everything about Symmetra short range and SLOW? Sym needs to be able to project damage and adjust to dives/flanks easier.
- Move her main fire to her alt fire as it isn’t in any way the focus of her character or her main damage source.
- increase orb fire charge rate
- increase orb fire travel speed
- Add a slow target tracking to fired orbs to the closest target in line of sight of orbs cone of attack, still allowing for orbs to penetrate targets. This makes a stream of small orbs much more viable.
- Make enemies hit by turrets visible to entire team through walls
- lower timer on turret charges
- Make all 6 turrets launched as slow projectiles which deploy instantly, and that can be rapid fired. Add a distinct audible sound to fired turrets.
- make turret damage recharge sym personal shield
- hitting Z tells ult status and shows deployed ultimates location through walls
- Add an instant self teleport to syms deployed ult location by hitting Q when ult is already deployed, w/ a 30 second cool down
- ALLOW SYM TO RECALL DEPLOYED ULTIMATES! by holding Q a deployed ult that hasn’t taken damage for 5 seconds is instantly recalled, regardless of distance from sym, allowing sym to redeploy it with remaining tele uses and health. If sym is killed while moving a previously deployed ult it is lost.
- make Syms play of the game replay show the POV for each turret firing in smaller windows with syms main view in a middle window. people have no idea how much sym actually does.
The point is there are tons of ways to make sim more balanced that doesn’t require making her a completely different character. I would hate to see her lose two of the best and unique ults in the game.
