Stadiums need a new dedicated large map

Are you thinking about creating a new, larger map for Stadium Mode?
Stadium mode is fun, but I feel like it’s a lot of work to play multiple rounds with some modifications to existing maps.
I don’t mind that it takes 30 minutes to play a game, but the problem is that it’s almost 6-7 maps to fill that 30 minutes.
I think it would be less tiring and more satisfying to have one big map and play 30 minutes on it.

Do you recognize the Blackheart’s Bay map from heroes of the storm?
You collect gold coins and give them to a pirate ship that fires cannons at the opponent’s key structures, and you win if you eventually destroy their key structures.
I think it would be cool to have a big map with multiple objects in stadium mode.

I too feel like the game format is the weakest point of Stadium.
Between the sameness of the objectives and the awkward pacing caused by the shopping phase, there is work to do here.

They can drastically refine the current format or they can do something like you suggested.

MOBAs usually have 1 map only, but they don’t feel repetitive.
The objectives and the pacing matter.

I don’t really like this idea at all. It’s not flexible. The current format allows us to get a lot of new maps on a consistent basis and facilitates us getting new game modes as well.

Additionally it would introduce a myriad of issues to do with having to balance whatever this new mega game mode would be. It’d also requires changes to how powers are dealt out and how often the shop is available etc. It’s just a lot of work for not a lot of reason in my opinion.

The fact is Stadium is Blizzard “best” bet to make Overwatch survive.

Base game is beyond saving, Blizzard tried for many years in various way and is always worse, something different like Stadium is their last chance.

Sure, but reworking it from the ground up sounds like a good way to ensure it fails.

It’s not much reworking, they need to try a new type of main game mode, Stadium be more “moba” is their last chance to make Overwatch survive.

After all the actual main game mode was changed so many times and every time not worked for too much time, started with hero stacking, removed after some months, this leaded to problem like shield stack, goat and so on and we get role queue and 2-2-2, this lead to other problems and we get 1-2-2 and 5vs5 and even this is not working.

It’s time to accept the actual game mode is beyond saving, changing direction more is possibile is the only choice, not the best or the worse, simple the only one choice or they can simple let the game die, which probably is the only real good choice.

Starting a new project spin off of Overwatch is the best way to solve the situation, but not pure hero shotter, simple not work.

Changing out the current format of 7 rounds on different maps to 1 mega round on 1 mega map is an enormous rework.

I mean is not enough reworking, Blizzard need restarting, they must go more far away they can from the actual main game mode.

Ideally they should have started a spin off of Overwatch based on the “moba” gameplay, but this is better of continue to “force feeding” Overwatch trying to keep it alive even if the game want simple to die.
