Stadium: Devs address community feedback

Going to sum up what was posted by PlayOverwatch about the Stadium Feedback.

Top 3 issues we’ve heard:

  • Lack of Crossplay support
  • High Leaver Rate
  • Performance on older systems

Breakdown:


Crossplay In Stadium

  • We agree that this is an issue and will enable it

This will require a patch, we’re investigating the timeline (hopefully S16 mid), and will update you all when there is more info.


Leavers

  • There are leavers in Stadium, but our data is showing that it’s not any higher than ranked.

We’re investigating whether there is an issue with our data. This could potentially be a perception issue, but we’d rather take a look at our side first! We should have more info later this week.


Performance

  • Stadium is a more demanding game mode and we’ve received reports that it’s hitting older systems harder.

We’re currently looking into it, have some ideas on how we could make the experience better, and are shooting to get those into a near-term patch.


Bonus!

  • Win rate balance for the mode is good, but we’ve seen talk about heroes that feel oppressive and unfun to play against.

We’d like to address some of these, but with less than a day’s worth of data it’s a little early to publicly commit to anything.

Stadium has all the issues of ranked with even worse balancing. The only benefit is a lot of the problematic characters have been removed like ball, doom, sombra, mauga, hog, widow, pharah, sojourn etc

Man, the mode is so Brawl favorable that I can’t imagine how they will fit Widow in there.

True. Once stadium starts adding this problematic characters the mode will be a mess. The DEVs of OW really cant balance to save their lives so I imagine stadium will only get worse over time.

Crossplay is just net negative. Let PC players opt out of it via toggle and it would be fine… but its going to be mandatory aswell…

Stadium needs to just nerf sustain or buff damage

Sounds like more whacky fun for me. I’m taking the mode as casually as possible. I think people shouldn’t look for constant balance like the normal modes unless there are extreme outliers. After all, just having a currency system alone already makes it imbalanced because one side already gets more access to resources so it’s easy to snowball anyway. So, I’m just looking to make silly builds as much as possible and have fun instead of looking for a strictly authentic competitively balanced experience.

Plus, the community has hardly explored the meta on building currencies and efficiency, swapping items, using counter items like damage reductions, resistances, heal reductions, armor bypass, etc. in the generic/universal kits. People just want to make their own whacky build to work, while trying to take on the enemies potentially op whacky (or more serious) builds

You can do both of these already with the upgrade system in place.

Cyber Venom, purple ability tab, applies a healing reduction on ability hit. Then any upgrade with Weapon/Ability power upgrades both/either your damage/ healing.

i think you forgot the biggest issue… Zarya’s existence in the mode.

Odd that someone from the dev team wouldn’t post a quick note saying they know about issues and are working on them. Thanks for posting what you had seen.

To each there own I guess. For me Stadium is all stomp matches, honestly its just a worse more complicated version of comp.

Defense abilities are much stronger tho

Autoaim. Soldier got pocket autoaim, McCree got pocket autoaim. Autoaim for all hitscanners for free!

I’ve not put any points into survival for my heroes unless it was for one of the upgrades. I really just don’t find that they provide any value over putting points into weapon and ability power for my heroes at least. So I am assuming it’s generally the same unless you are a hero who relies more on staying alive or being close range to deal damage like Mercy/Rein.

I’ll have to try to make more survival builds and let you know!
