Damn , i wonder why it got so low?
Could it be nerfing fun builds and adding heroes on repeat instead of balancing the current roaster?
For what it was worth juno, kiri, d.va and ashe were pretty fun when the mode launched, but hey at least now we know it’s the least popular mode not like a certain someone
The inability to switch powers and heroes also hurt it. I was just in a qp match yesterday where half the team left due to the enemy team being full of flight character while we only have ana as hitscan. There have also been multiple times where genji and dva aren’t able to play the game and pretty much just wait and take the L for half an hour. I feel at least the tank should be able to switch.
I agree changes need to be made, but to stop doing updates other then balancing isn’t going to fix the mode. It just put it on life support, which will lead to its death since its getting no new content.
I stopped playing Stadium simply down to the fact that it just felt like playing a broken game. What made it worse though is the fact that you can’t switch heroes at any point making some games feel like a complete lost cause.
I’d rather just play the normal modes where balance is set in a logical way, not a mode where the objective is to find (or basically just google) the most bust build for a character.
I dont think this is relevant to the decision. Having the mode split between QP and Comp is still 6%, and merging them may actually be a negative outcome, as there are a lot of people who love/hate the format differences (e.g. best of 5 vs best of 7). So youd likely lose a percentage of each by doing so.
Stadium literally became less fun the more they updated it.
In the beginning, pretty much everyone was allowed to do crazy things. Then it was like they decided that only very specific characters were allowed to do crazy things.
I’d love to see the numbers and how it ended up at 3%.
It was a dumb decision to begin with. Now reverting it will do nothing yes.
Won’t it lose players regardless now since there won’t be any more updates?
Eh , whatever. Maybe they will do some of those funny rewinds like “stadium season 1” or smth. I’d play the crap out of that one.
Sure, but it was losing players either way. The point I’m making is that merging them into one mode doesnt actually changer the statistics that drove that decision. Like if you merge them into one mode and it even retained every player who wanted to play, it’s not like there’s any sort of shocking development of “OMG its now at 6%!”. It was already at 6%.
Now thats not to say there arent other reasons for it dropping off – in fact I’ve vocally said in the past that I feel like Blizzard is the “king of self-fulfilling prophecies” – They make bad decisions that drive down player counts in specific areas then use that as justification to not invest time, which creates a cycle of the mode getting worse. Rinse and repeat. It happened to arcade over the years - tons of game modes that used to be quite popular but fell off hard due to balance changes in the main game leaking over and causing horrible issues that they completely ignore.
I was about to say “but what about q times” but then again there is no MM so the games probably are instant anyway regardless of unranked/ranked so yeah it doesn’t matter.
It’s garbage with a pile of downtime that even before release was complained about to no end and met with response from the stadium manager of basically “we already decided it’s best like this so your feedback isn’t necessary”.
It was 100% managed to failure.
They made a closed beta (good)
They ignored every single bit of feedback that was not just a little nitpick. Every format complaint, every part of making a build every part of game length and downtime and decision making they said basically too bad this is what we are releasing if you don’t like it don’t play it.
Which is the most insane thing to do during public testing. It was an absolute disaster.
I mean here is the exact quote he gave me in response to being like the 200th person to complain about it being too long for overwatch. I mean testing with actual players clearly stated what they were doing wasn’t best. But they doubled down and straight up said What they did before testing was worked best. How could it have worked best if during the actual play test of the players the players said they didn’t like it? Like what even is Blizzard management?
“"We did a TON of testing to arrive at 7. To achieve the strategy and power curve we thought felt best, 7 in general worked the best.
For example, we tried best of 5 for Junkenstein’s Lab for this exact reason, to see whether that would fit for Stadium, and while it was a lot of fun and matches were quick, the degree to which the chaos ramped in best of 5 was simply TOO jarring to sustain a permanent mode. That’s not to say there won’t be adjustments further based on feedback, to be clear! But that’s how we got to where we are. Appreciate your perspective on this a huge amount "
I don’t play it because it takes too long to finish a match. The back and forth, and then there’s too much info with builds and stuff. I really don’t have time to invest too much energy into that.
The biggest problem in my mind was QP-like matchmaking. I loved the concept, and could have got behind it if as a gold/plat player I didn’t find almost every game infested with diamond+ players I could not compete with.
Add to that the obvious hell that is realising your team locked in junk/reaper, leaving the enemy team free to pick phara (and other such strong counters scenarios) that you’re then stuck with for the whole game and… yeah, it just didn’t work.
