It seems players almost at random either get 1 of 2 things. They hit the rank they’re meant to be at, and tend to stay there only migrating up and down very rarely if at all with fairly accurate games.
Or.
You get inconsistent SR gains and losses so wild that you can start low, get high, then crash down again. Win streaks and losing streaks. It’s almost like a gaming algorithm at this point as it seems anyone who gets lucky, or unlucky and gets these tend to have their ranks varied by miles. Get lots of wins constantly, haven’t lost a game for the past 3 hours? Tons of SR, surging up the ranks. Suddenly nothing but losing streaks for 5 hours straight and you’re now lower than when you started.
It’s almost like any sort of 50/50 winrate consistent matching algorithm is going haywire and giving people lots of either win streaks or losing streaks, then compensating by slamming them with the opposite so their SR malfunctions.
I’m still trying to wrap my head around; as a Solo only Flex player, who plays mainly Tanks and Supports with the occasional DPS when needed. Who knows how to do basic functions like regroup, build comps, position, etc. Who understands hero play and counter-play. Who understands how to play multiple characters in different tiers to at least above average performance.
Just getting rammed by the roller coaster of the Match Maker. Season two my original placements had me at Silver, 1975 to be exact, so High Silver. Finished at 2075 Gold.
Seasons 3 and 4 had me climbing Gold with fairly normal 50/50 games, going up 200 SR each Season.
Season 5 things kick up, more people have a better understanding of the game, still fairly good matches but no direct win-streaks; 2775 Platinum.
Season 6 the game decides that I’m ONLY allowed to play against Masters and Grand Masters (for whatever reason). I hold my own, performance very well and win most of my games. Told my Masters/GM teammates that I was Gold very recently still and not sure why I was here, but they said I was playing and making calls like a Master level player would.
Season 7; Not the best, perhaps most people cramming more games after Holiday Break. Win a couple games but lose the majority roughly 3-7. Dropped 200 SR, 3300 Diamond.
Season 8; Throwers, everywhere. One-tricks and throwers, people who just don’t even care anymore playing Comp like it’s Quick Play. Dropped 500 SR down to 2800 Platinum.
And tonight the end of Season 9; 2700 Platinum, another 100 SR loss but not as fierce as the last two Seasons, but a massive, massive losing streak. 2-8 W/L. Some throwers, and a one-trick Symm. With several seriously close games that went multiple rounds and some that were just plain stomp fests.
I’m about to finish my alt accounts first placements for the first time to just see if my main accounts MMR is FUBAR, since I get very similar games in Quick Play. Something seems broken as all hell and I don’t know if it’ll get fixed. Competitive, back when I was having fun, was the only mode I’d actually play and have fun in. Arcade and Quick Play are just bloated Death Matches with nothing of interest happening outside of 6v6 stacks. Comp has become so tilting and unfun that Overwatch does not feel worth playing anymore. I really want to enjoy it, but it doesn’t want me too no matter what.
