One of the biggest issues running two tanks was who was main tank, and who was off tank and what did you play? Also there are comps that are just too tank heavy…
Split them. Two Separate Queues.
Main Tank Heroes:
Rein
Ram
Winston
Sigma
Orisa
Mauga
Off tank:
Zarya
Wrecking Ball
Doom
DVA
Junker Queen
Reduce the Off tank health by 10% and damage by 5%
This will allow Main Tanks to be MAIN Tanks, generally damage absorbers and not as mobile, aside Winston, and the off tanks as more mobility built
This would make tank choices have new synergies and require strategy while eliminating some of the more obviously overpowered combos, Rein Orisa battles… all day long.
I believe that this will invigorate the game again, offer tank players a path forward where each player will know that they are “MAIN or OFF” tank and not have to worry about having a fight with some rando over their roles or tank choices.
Is this limiting? A little, but it is also harnessing the uniqueness of the tank role and brings clarity. Open role 6v6 made way for the role queue, which is very popular, I think a role queue for the tanks and making them distinct is the answer. Thank you for your time in considering my idea.
I don’t think there are enough tank players and I don’t see many people returning to tank except for trying it out for a few weeks. I think the devs are hesitant to jump right back into 6v6 specifically because of queue times
You don’t even have the right tanks listed for main tank and off tank.
Main tanks are the initiators. Off tanks are the enablers. Wrecking Ball is a main tank same with Doom. Sigma is an off tank.
And the roles are not 100% fixed. If you pair two off tanks together one has to be the main tank. Hog for example is an off tank. But if you run him with D.Va he’s all of the sudden the main tank.
This Idea just doesn’t work precisely because so few people even understand the terms enough to know the difference.
It’s up for discussion, I was looking at more mobility vs damage mitigation. Do you want to be the mobile HP heavy DPS light disruptor or the damage sponge.
The split itself is less important to me than the actual resolution. As long as they at least try it. I think those afraid of the queue times going longer are taking a “Devil you know approach” I believe that if main and off tanks knew they’d know and have their role and tank pools ahead of time, they would be more inclined to queue up for it. I know I would.
I like this idea and ive made this suggestion before to people but the problem arises when you gotta swap in order to power through a tough choke point. If your not able to swap to 2 dive tanks to hit a back line and you still stuck with a defensive tank your team is kinda screwed. Its also just adding in more complexity that removes alot of variety unfortunately
