I mean it could be accidental that it is getting rigged by itself (after all they doesn’t seems to know what the issue is) but ignorance isn’t an excuse.
The 50% winrate is just too convenient to be just a coincidence especially with this bad matchmaking.
It was clarified in the interview – what Blizzard has is a classic ELO system similar to chess. The algorithm tries to match it such that there’s an even chance for both sides winning. The problem is that there are variations in the MMR of players, so the matchups eventually are more like approx. 45:55 (I didn’t remember the actual numbers), so to account for variations, low MMR is awarded if you have greater chances of winning, while high MMR is given if lower chances of winning.
This means that consistent play eventually results in even wins and losses (assuming it’s an honest coin toss 50/50 game). In the event it isn’t, you either win more or less than usual. Since I’m at 60%-80% win rate on my best heroes and 20%-40% on my worst ones, I’m highly inconsistent, which is true since I’m super casual.
To be entirely honest, I am not sure how it could possibly do that. I would be lying if I said I did not prefer the skill based element from Overwatch Uno because it made climbing more consistent for me, personally. But, like, the only way to tell if your decision making consistently leads to wins is if you consistently win.
It’s just kind of a bummer because it often feels as if it is out of your hands. I just won a game today by doing what I was supposed to do. I threw my corpse at point more often than their tank did and we won as a result of it. I did not feel great. I was more similar to a toy of dubious origin used for not so savory things… But I won. My decision to ragdoll myself was the correct choice. Only because my teammates actually took advantage of it.
If they did not, all of my efforts would have been for nothing. That is just annoying and the frustration that comes from this is often why people complain about the matchmaking to begin with. It’s so obnoxious that if you just swapped one of your DPS or supports or the tank around, you know that the game would go from an insurmountable mountain to climb into a surprise Christmas gift.
I wish the lobbies were closer in skill level, not by average, but by all participants individually. If I am platinum 4, put me with other platinum 4. If I win enough to become platinum 3 and they lose enough to become platinum 5… Do it. Like???
That is another thing that bugs the heck out of me.
It works in chess because there is only 1 player so ranking based on wins makes sense.
In OW however your skill is determined by what other 4 players you get.
They could have easily make OW stats based but instead they went for wins which makes no sense whatsoever.
And your team thanks you for that, that basic task seems so alien to most tanks.
Like literally we got a point I even walled to next point we had good stagger on enemy team and their mei is alone dude on mauga won’t rush in there and I had to touch point on hanzo and die as the enemy team started coming as I was dueling mei cqc, this dude went in as soon as I walled ez win.
matchmaker rigging / EOMM isn’t real
I believe you. As you’re the person who’s aim is to force players into 50/50, you can’t lie and you only say the truth all the time. Yes, I believe you man, totally not a lie
This it’s why I want open q , as long as they are closer to skill the comps didn’t matter much.
The worst thing about having the lower skilled players on both teams is it makes the matches trashy , the good player on this team gets the easy shot on the other
It also lowers your playskill gradually over match.
Yep, I hope that they just turn open queue into 6v6 so we can have the best of both. I have a feeling it will not be that simple given they are doing all of these strangely specific tests.
But whatever, I can play anything. I have even been warming up to the idea of OG Reinhardt if that happens. I have been improving, NerfThis. I feel that perhaps I am ready for single fire ball, 20 meter shatter, and no charge cancel if that is what it comes down to.
Which means team play is the biggest factor, and playing around your team matters the most, at least that’s what it used to be. It’s not a new insight, my highest SR in comp was during the days it was okay to play 6-stack in GM, and I haven’t played comp since they made the changes on the number of members team you can form in GM.
It’s because this is a team game, it has roles, and each role have defined abilities and tactics defined by those roles and supported by the lore. The hero fantasy started breaking down when they started reworking the heroes according to what is “fair”, and not based on what is lore, and what excites our values and imagination.
And if some forum posters have their way, they want the tank role to be deleted because of their idea of what is “fair”.
I don’t think charge cancel or steering will be removed they are qol.
I want them as much as you do and long before you too
Was looking through my old posts for some tank stuff funnily I had also manifested rammatra sorry you too

I think they basically are looking at long term solutions for a proper format so that they can then design things around that , i expect another soft relaunch it’s why all those hero abilities are tested.
Sombra current state is only a fix for now.
They will properly rework her when they go for the next one, i expect many other heroes too.
They are learning what works remember this is not entirely the same team.
So they are currently figuring out a plan.
Atleast what I think it is since Jeff was gone they have been just trying to meet goalposts and had little time to create a vision.
Believe it or not, I fought so hard for a Reinhardt charge cancel despite the fact that I never intended to play him. Even after my Sistah Spice put down the hammer. I always advocated for it. I stand on the side of justice.
A lot of these qol stuff early on in ow life would have made life much better for tanks.
I like 6v6, despite the fact that 5v5 is simpler. TBH, I’m not sure if there are enough tank enthusiasts to do 6v6. I didn’t get a chance to try 6v6 max 2, but I’m pinning my hopes on that, but it’ll take more than a week of player testing for casuals like me to feel it out.
Yeah but if the matchmaking is bad, there is not much you can do about it unless you smurf and outclass the entire team to solo carry them.
A hilarious side effect of that is matches in higher elos being actually easier because you have more ppl in the team who knows what they are doing.
TLDR – there is too much variability in the quality of the players and their hero pools that it is difficult for the system to match the player base properly. When I was a member of the team, we played specific heroes properly – I implicitly understood when a 6-stack was disallowed in GM that at the very least, we won’t be able to play optimally. Playing with other people and their hero pools is hard.
Another way of putting it is that stat based-SR is hard because heroes do different things – S76 and Pharah plays for pressure, while Genjie and Cassidy play for kills. They have different effects for different team synergies.
All in all, the game is fair, it requires I play flexibly since it’s solo queue if I wanna comp, which I don’t. It works for me, I guess.
It doesn’t matter how they explain the matchmaker… its doesn’t feel like its working and that is the main issue. If you get stomped by double digits in elims does it matter that the odds are 50/50 or the rank is 1 to 1 lol.
This seems to be all predicated on their MMR accurately measuring a person’s skill which doesn’t seem right if the ladder is full of smurfs and cheaters.
THe dude is smoking something and garbling random words , the last few matches the teammates i got i would run away from in irl.
Ever played chess? I’ve seen 1780 ELO players beat 2000 ELO players – and yet the math predicts 1:4 odds that the 2000 ELO players would win. At ELOs below 2500, players make A LOT of mistakes, same with OW, and you don’t expect anything except at the level of GMs who study and play the game as a profession to be consistent.
Ofc, it’s more interesting for people to believe in conspiracy theories, but real life is more boring than that.
I need to start making troll rigged matchmaking posts.
So I can teach folks about statistics and what probability means, along with what randomness actually means.
You seem to think the mm trying to give each team an equal probability of winning means the matches are rigged.
The truth is, if the mm didn’t try to do that, then yes, that would be rigging.
I’m responding specifically to you cuz you’re a terrible disseminater of misinformation here. You dont understsnd what youre talking about in regards to mm. Like not one clue to be found. But youre so convinced youre right. Borderline tragic.
fancy terms for rng and riggged
The key thing is this Mr Red tank numbers are low, match quality is low and q time is fast.
this one key stuff neither that content maker nor the developer is addressing until then there is not point defending their logic
