Spectators shouldn't be able to talk to people ingame

Like title says: People spectating shouldn’t be able to read our chat or even comment anything we do. Had a game where a spectator was the whole game saying i’m garbage and commenting everything i did. Put a stop to it, since muting isn’t stoping the trollers.

100% - many spectators are disruptive trolls and sabotage matches.

1 ) should be required that the person they are spectating should have a limited cam to only watch what their friend sees on screen and not watch other players.

2 ) The person should NOT be able to have a conversation with the match or the team.

3 ) The person should not be allowed to join the match when it is in progress.

I’ve literally had someone spectate me as sombra before, and tell someone on the enemy team i was going to ambush them.

I’ve had spectators repeatedly flame me over and over in a match.

I’ve had spectators flood the chat with unnecessary chat and cause missed call-outs.

Surprised Blizzard still thinks everyone is a nice TOS abiding carebear in this community

It’s strange that they took out general chat but left this in. The former had no impact on an active game.

yep, spectators should be limited to the same first person view that the player has, especially in comp, because they can roam around and tell where everyone is. you cant stop the communication though, if they didnt do it via chat, they could do it by just talking to them on the phone or discord, which is why i say they need to be able to only see from the same point of view that the player has.

My homie was absolutely ballistic toxic because a spectator joined a group in QP and started talking trash. This poor Ana that was in their group who did not even say anything started to become our punching bag because, well, they were spectators. So the person in their group was the scapegoat and we kept killing her over and over again. I still feel bad about it. I did not say anything about her myself, but I was indeed showing off all the fancy ways I could kill their friend. :skull:

Then turn off match chat friendo

This is a double edge sword. It is what some people do to see if the other player is cheating. Well I won’t deny ppl use it for cheating, providing info on the enemy team.

Your other points are fine.

what that is ridiculously op even if i do think it’s cool, speaking of i must have played with 5 spectators yesterday all on my team which is strange.

Those are the easiest types to deal with. The reports always work, because they leave a handy text trail. Report and out they go.

OR, just hotkey chat on/off, and turn it off with a keypress. Test the waters and turn it back on, and if it’s a mess, off it goes until the next match. Easy peas.

its not about the context. its about the trolls and their friends that sell out team mates in chat. its a form of soft cheating.

As you proceed to contextualize the argument

Then report them as such.

I can’t say that I’ve ever been affected by players using match chat to their advantage (at least in Overwatch).

Not a reason to disable match chat for everyone.

ITT: less than 0.00000001% playerbase trolls while spectating. “Omg so toxic, the whole feature needs a serious rework because it is ruining people’s lives!!!111one”

You cant spectate in comp. And I highly doubt someone who is spectating their friend in qp is trying to look at a bunch of different pov to try and tell their friend about the enemies to gain an advantage.

yeah, and not everyone has the same experience with people around them while driving on the roads. Some states have better drivers than others. some days better than others.

same for overwatch.

Depends upon the time of day you play and how aware you are to others around you in the match.

How is this still a thing is beyond me. I don’t know what kind of chat they do now since i block text and voice but in OW1 i seen spec giving out where the players are and at worst they are toxic.

I thought about it even if they disable spec chat they would still use discord or similar programs.

Can you not mute spectators?
