Spectator comments are a thing?!?!

Forgive me but have people always been able to comment in chat as a Spectator during matches?

Why is this a thing? Why is someone who isn’t in the game allowed to clutter match communication?

This should be removed imo.

I knew it was a thing for custom games, but I hadn’t seen someone use it during a regular match.

Why every spectator typing on chat I find is toxic and distracting?

I always block them

As a spectator I’ve politely asked if someone could leave so I can play the game with my friend. Nobody left, but the thought was there.

Spectators usually just comment on the match. I’m yet to see a spectator hurl abuse or give one team an unfair advantage.

Yea its always been a thing. You just normally never have any spectators in a game unless you’re trying to join a friend in an already full match, so it never really happens.

If you have a problem with it, you can just mute match chat, which I assume you should be doing anyways if you really care about “cluttering coms”.

Honest question, why do this? I’ve seen people ask this and wondered why not just wait for the end of the game?

maybe they didnt have time to wait, or other reasons, who knows, and besides, it doesnt hurt to ask

It’s not a big deal at all and rarely happens. People can’t spectate comp games either. It’s fine and does not need to be removed. If you only just realized it now… certainly it’s not a problem.

My friend was having fun, I didn’t want her to leave a winning game she was enjoying! I suspect this is why no one on her team left either haha

Well it doesn’t really do it, but that’s why they disabled it for comps or other things. Though you are right. People could cheat with that

This makes no sense. If I mute match chat then I can’t communicate with all of my teammates or the people in game. No one should have to have their communications imposed because of a spectator.

People who are not in the match shouldn’t be able to use text chat, period.

Match chat is the orange text.
Team chat is the blue text.

If you mute match chat, you can still communicate perfectly fine with your teammates. In fact, it’s easier since you also don’t have to worry about the enemy team blowing up your chat.

If insist on being able to talk to the enemy team but want spectator chat blocked because it “clutters team chat”… You’re the one that’s not really making any sense mate.

you can just simply mute them tho iirc?
