Spawn Death Trap

Maps where you walk out of spawn and move to the side and DROP to death 1 foot away from the spawn door… WHO thought that was a good idea??? Literally the STUPIDEST thing I’ve ever seen in a game.

I mean you could just not do that

It looks like someone got bullied by a redditor, Lucio. :joy:

I know you couldn’t possible be stupid enough to mean that.

No, believe it or not, I just stepped out of spawn and moved sideways to avoid damage and it cost us the chance to have a final teamfight for the last 20 seconds of a comp match.

I literally got trolled by the person who made the map. It blows my mind they include stuff like that in the game… Like “hey, we want you to be as miserable and frustrated as humanly possible when you play our game.” Idk, if I were an exec and some designer put that on the map, I’d fire them immediately on the spot bc I’d know they’re just a troll that likes to make people miserable for fun. It’d be like the the NFL secretly putting a trap hole right on the football field… Haha, the whole game got decided by someone falling into a random trap hole.

Big words from someone who apparently struggles with knowing where the floor is.

I mean, I’m not going to pretend like I haven’t been there, and environmental deaths are not annoying, but like, that’s kind of why they’re there in the first place; it opens up opportunities for environmental killing for the enemy.

If you’re just falling off the map though, then this is just your fault, and there are literally three routes you can take out of spawn to prevent yourself from falling off the map, so you can’t really make any excuses either. Lmao

I can’t think of any map that has a death drop that is less than 15m from spawn, isn’t overtly off to the side and is somehow in your way of progressing to the objective point in front of you.

Make no mistake, this is absolutely a you problem.

Ilios Well, unless you consider the sides of the dropship’s main door “overtly off to the side”.

Unless your in-game hero is literally drunk, there is no way you should be walking off the side of the ramp to your death.

While I’m sure plenty of us won’t admit it most of us have been there. The bumbling around maps, panic-strafing into the abyss stage of our Overwatch experience.

You’ll grow out of it.

Should it be in the game? I wouldn’t have put it there, but it is there and redesigning maps would take crazy amounts of dev time and there is way more important stuff we need them to get on.

OP is probably talking about booping people when they leave spawn.

They specified they weren’t actually

Even if he wasn’t it’s still a problem of spawn camping with Phara or something.

I like that environmental deaths are possible. But putting it immediately outside of a spawn door is what is ridiculous. I mean, in fact, I can’t think of a single drop off on ANY map where you can turn a blind corner and step right off the map. If there are drop offs, you can see them clearly and if you fall off, it’s because you knew it was there but you know that you just lost your own sense of space. But a BLIND drop off, the ONLY blind drop off, sitting RIGHT outside of a spawn room? That’s just trolling. That’s someone saying, “I want people to quit OW, I’ll put this drop off right here.”.

Illios, dropoff is 0m from initial spawn. Take one step diagonally from the door. I’ve been playing for 18 months and didn’t know it was there either bc you would never notice it unless you actually stepped off the map by random chance.

Come on dude, you’ve played OW before right? Have you ever dodged fire before, or do you just let it hit you? As I was walking out of spawn, a Rein emerged near spawn and shot a fire strike at me. I took a step to the right. I had to be drunk to decide avoiding eating a firestrike?

I agree, it’s not top priority. But a blind drop off at spawn is like they are literally trying to get people to uninstall the game, however rare it is people drop off of it. And patching just that area up w concrete wouldn’t take a ton of map adjustment… I do agree tho, there are more pressing issues.

Randomly, it was a Rein spawn camping, sort of… from a distance he tried to time a firestrike to hit me coming out of spawn… If he was hoping I’d move off the cliff, he owned me, but I think he was just shooting it for damage.

Someone got booped at last point defense on King’s Row lmao.

Hey guess what dude, there’s a hole there. Go out the other door.

I am ALWAYS looking for boops there. Last week I got six boops into that same hole in one game lolololol

Some people never learn.

It’s a blind drop off. You don’t see it unless you take a step forward and look down and to the right. It’s the ONLY blind drop off right outside of a doorway or around a corner in the entire game that I know of, and it’s outside of a spawn room of all places? Like, do you want OW matches to be decided by flukes?? I know I could “just not do that”, did your really think that was the point?? No, you didn’t. Because you aren’t that dumb. You know the point is that it’s a stupid place to put a dropoff.

Wrong. I know about that one because that entire AREA is loaded with drop offs, so everyone knows to be careful there.

Nope, I fell off a drop off where you would never intuitively think you are in danger of even possibly being near a drop off and no, I wasn’t booped.

I’ve taken that fatal step a few times…but honestly, it always cracks me the hell up when I did it. “Well hello little death pit. Nice to see you again. Hope you’ve been doing well.”

I mean, I knew it was there. I was just being absent minded.

Have you backed into the Well in Illios? You should try it. Well worth the effort. And try to get POTG when you do it, then you’ll be a pro like me. Just remember to wave as you drift down into oblivion. It got me the most endorsements I’ve gotten in one match…ever.

Thank you little pits of death. I appreciate you.

Which map is that? I wanna try.

Coming out of the dropship on Oasis? :stuck_out_tongue:

Or Lijiang?

These are the two weird spawn drops I know of, well there’s also one on Route 66.

I typically laugh at myself when I fall off the map, too. But this was the first time I encountered that particular dropoff in 18 months of playing OW, and it happened with 20 seconds left of the clock of the final round of a comp match where my team had ults ready and the score was 70-99, and it cost us the entire match.

Illios well, initial spawn room.

Oasis I don’t know about. At spawn? Lijang is obvious bc the bridge is like a hill, you can’t miss it. 66, I know the right edge of map is a cliff, but not sure otherwise.
