If I can spawn camp 1 or two dps as hog it’s a good strategy right.
Camping one player usually isn’t worth it, because you’re effectively taking yourself out of the game by doing so. Two is well worth it though.
That’s pretty much you putting yourself in a disadvantage.
The terrain near spawn is made so they have an advantage, it’s better to stay back.
Next to that you’re either extending or moving your front line forward, leaving more room in the middle and the backside leaving the rest of your team vurnerable for flanks if people get out.
Especially with the healing people can recieve in spawn, it’s pretty much hard to deal with it.
Also switching characters constantly removes the cooldown, so even if they don’t gain ultimate charge they’ll be able to anti-nade your team the entire time or use another nasty strategy to counter it.
So yeah it’s not worth it.
It really depends how valuable the target is compared to how valuable you are.
Generally value is in this sort of order:
Main Support>Main tank>Off Support>Main DPS>Off tank>Flex DPS
So if you’re spawn camping someone with a higher value compared to you, then spawn camping is a good strat.
Apparently not. I like spawn camping the support. But I have had my team complain about it a few times before.
“You guys are losing a 4v5 when they have no healers?!” I said. “Alright I’m coming back then.”
And another game:
“What are you doing there Widow?”
“Spawn camping their Mercy.”
“Well it is not helping much.”
LOL.
I would say spawn camping Mercy mains in quick play with roadhog is my favourite. <3
I generally try to go after the dps, one thing i noticed is main supports if you camp them one or two times, generally get their whole team on you.
I find dps are the abandoned children no one cares if one of them disappears.
If you can see them inside their actual spawn you are doing it wrong. Granted it is funny seing that Mercy pistoling you from her spawn. But there is nothing you can do.
I like your thought process here. My main problem with spawn camping a single player is that you’re putting yourself at risk with no real risk to other player.
If you manage to kill them 100 times over, you might give your team the edge but your team will still be fighting a 5v5. If they kill you though, your team will be fighting a 5v6. If you can minimize that risk or shut out the right player then it might be worth it regardless.
I think anything I say here is damaging because what really makes spawn camping worth it is contextual; it changes based on matchups, map geometry, and so much more that can’t be covered in a few brief paragraphs.
Spawn camping has been around forever.
It is bad form but hey have fun if that is what gets you through the night – Just know there are counters for hog and others who spawn camp and I change (even if temp) to take care of it
It depends. There’s a definite advantage to spawn camping a support, because either they’re not there for subsequent fights or someone has to peel to get them to the battle. If you can keep two people from the battle for a while, that’s good for your team.
Mabye, most of the time it’s easier on hero’s that generally make plays on their own like doomfist, tracer, sombra and yea including hog.
If your team is competent and can stay alive long enough for you to eat the first pick then the spawncamp was worth it. At the same time how much value really depends on what you kill, if you kill a main healer that’ll probably be more valuable than some dps.
I trio with a GM ball and Lucio player and just spawn camps the Widow entire game, can confirm it works.
It is worth it since after you kill them you have plenty of time to make it to the fight from the flank as well which is an advantageous position.
There is no terrain advantage as you mention. Often times its actually more advantageous to push into their spawn like this because they rarely expect it, allowing you to catch them by surprise. You can then push to the team fight 5v6
On Havana defenders have advantage in height, whilst near the spawn it’s very hard to use objects near you as cover or get up and away.
On Paris it’s hard to set up a proper line or push back as the defending team.
There are plenty of other examples though i’m not going to look into that, though most of these areas are designed this way.
It’s still a risky play, wouldn’t say it’s always worth it and can be quite situational.
After all it isn’t that hard to notice when people try to spawncamp.
There’s always a risk to any play but you always have the opportunity to get creative and catch people off guard. Havana is widely accepted by the community to be a poorly made map, yet even on third point, which is what I assume you’re referring to, hog can flank right side by the mega and hook someone and get away safely.
I was talking about the first point.
Hog can’t even reach right side unless you’re using a teleporter, which well means all attention is on that meaning the flank wont be that much of a surprise anymore.
Anyhow it’s still purely hypothetical, most maps should be designed so that spawncamping becomes harder… otherwise it would be failing standard map design.
Only if you are dps camping a support
Ladder of importance:
Main heal>Main tank>off heal>off tank>Dps
If you spawncamp an ana as a dps, which is a trade anyone should make and is very worth it. You deny her getting ult charge and any value to her team, the enemy will need to go back to save her, making it a 4v5 essentially with your team only losing a dps which is usually a won team fight. Even if they kill you they have to reposition themselves while your team can push
Its kinda toxic but an effective strategy
While it may be harder to pull off in some scenarios, if the opportunity arises, it’s always possible to make it work.
There are no such limitations on who can spawn camp, while tracer and other dps heroes are well suited for it, hog and moira can also be very effective spawn campers.
Often times you don’t really get to pick who you are going to spawn camp and you can’t really force it. Spawn camping is best when a single squishy dies on the enemy team but your team lost the overall fight. In such a scenario if a hog finds himself in the backline he can sneak to the enemy spawn and hook whichever squishy he can and then converge onto the objective with his team. Often times if too many enemies die it becomes difficult to isolate a single one to spawn trap without getting outnumbered and losing the engagement.
Yes then of course it’s not an issue, it’s important to know your priorities.
Thats why dps are really efficient at spawncamping, as a doon player, when My team or I get a pick on a support I sometimes sneak to the spawn if the situation calls for it. Dps currently are the least impactful role in the game and thats why trading them for is support is always worth it.
Hog has a lot of value since he is a powerful offtank, although its worth it to spawncamp an main heal, its more risky cause an ana can dissect even with very little help from her team
Same with doom and tracer but they can always run away and have less valu3 on the battlefield
