I viewed it as a way to redeem myself for my first crushed dream. And so what, it’s better to be passionate and serious about something rather than being casual about something. I take every single thing serious, I do not take anything casually or without full effort.
It does seem eerily suspicious that the majority of toxicity I’d ever experienced in Overwatch was between Silver and platinum (commonly referred to by many as the most toxic ranks).
But sure….
It’s time to walk away from competitive gaming. Or at least FPS games.
Agreed.
The pandemic is slowly coming to an end. I recommend spending some time focusing on your physical and mental health.
Overwatch REALLY doesn’t matter.
Like at all….
I definitely agree here. The forums are a prime example of it.
Just got back from SCUBA diving. And I didn’t even have access to the internet for like 44 hrs. Can’t wait to go again.
I graduated with a Masters degree with a perfect score. I am pretty sure I was the only one that year among thousands of students who did. You know what my secret was? Studying with friends, proof reading each others work, performing mock presentation in front of them and vice versa. I could have never achieved what I have without them.
The idea that you’ll get to the top all by yourself is an illusion.
not sure where you are getting at. If you check my profile, you’ll see I have played around 100 games this season alone on this account. Also, my statement includes past events of loss streaks.
You try to present yourself as a player of integrity and ambition at every opportunity, but at the same time you admit to constantly playing against the rules and humiliating weaker players (like the OP).
Your best excuse is the long wait times, not your frustrating experiences when you actually tryhard and get some headwind.
You brag about a degree that is probably completely useless in the private sector on an internet forum full of people you don’t know, while dispensing wisdom to people who don’t want to hear it.
You, sir, are truly a forum hero. No, actually you are a weakling.
I think I am being very transparent with my actions here, but somehow you manage to misinterpret all of them.
Not sure where the term integrity comes from. I think it’s pretty clear that I don’t value integrity (with respect to overwatch) too much, otherwise I wouldn’t be smurfing.
You can be ambitious and still smurf from time to time due to extremely long queue times. You seem to be under the impression that these concepts are mutually exclusive.
First of all, I don’t constantly smurf. I have more playtime on my main than on my smurfs. Secondly, I think playing against the rules is a matter of definition. I don’t throw on my smurfs, so I am not entirely sure my actions are in fact a bannable offense.
Adding to this, before you twist my words again, this doesn’t mean what I am doing is right. I have said a million times that I am aware that I contribute to the issues of smurfs.
I have never humiliated anyone on these forums, especially not OP. I was trying to be understanding and empathic:
The only things that could be interpreted as ‘negative’ but by no means as humiliating:
I literally said that the reason why I graduated with highest distinction is due to constant corporation with fellow students and friends. I don’t credit that accomplishment to myself.
It was relevant to the discussion with OP since he strives to be at the top of his class and is under the assumption that he will only accomplish this by shutting himself off.
OP is venting his frustration and seems to conclude from his experience here that focusing on money and success from now on will fix all of his current problems and insecurities. I did offer my perspective, that’s true and maybe this was not warranted for. I am not going to assume OP’s real life situations but sometimes these posts are a cry for help and or attention, which I tried to give him.
The thing is, and I was actually hoping that a highly educated person like you would be able to connect the dots here, that people / players like you make people, in fact, quit the game.
You may think it’s not a big deal to hang out in lower elos to have some fun, but while you are always able to “opt-in” in regards to smurfing, players like the OP sadly can’t “opt-out”.
Also, people like you (you’re not the only one) come to this forum and manipulate players like the OP into thinking they’re not “good enough” when in reality they’re being prevented from developing properly. They shouldn’t have to face you and your peers/friends at this moment in their “Overwatch career”, whatever that means.
You’re making people give up. So stop with your crocodile tears and fake empathy. Those are hollow words.
With you, statements and actions simply do not fit together at all.
Well, if I have to choose between a random person on the internet quitting or quitting the game myself, I’ll choose them over me.
I am not sure where you think I play but just to put this into perspective: all of my smurfs are currently 3200+, mostly I smurf in low masters. Very seldom, I play in plat with a group of friends.
You really have it out for me, huh? I play nowhere near OP’s SR range.
Yea, imagine relating to someone who is ambitious and at the beginning of their journey and are currently facing the same struggles that I had to overcome when I was in Gold. I am so fake!
Dear PhilDunphy, there’s an apposite thread to talk about this stuff.
Right know your entire discussion with basil is off-topic.
Please go there if you still want to continue it.
Just to avoid violating ToS.
