I’m guessing from what I’ve heard (I watch all the TY vids and read all the OW news, not OWL news.) I’m guessing that within one year OW will receive a major overhaul. We’ll probably get everything we’ve been asking for; scoreboard, instant replay on the live client, clans…maybe even an SR reset… and probably more great QoL as well.

sometimes it’s sad when there is so much on the horizon, but I like what overwatch is very much so I keep playing

As soon as someone comes up with an idea for a scoreboard that provides context for the numbers. Basically, never.

This is the usual reason given for wanting a scoreboard and the likely reason that the dev team won’t add one. The vocal minority in the community has demonstrated that they will use every excuse they can find to blame other people for their own failures (like being unable to climb out of Silver,) and the dev team thinks the community needs less toxicity, not more.

But not having a scoreboard makes people 10x more toxic than they would be with a scoreboard… and tbh the people who are usually the most toxic are the ones who are under-performing, get called out for it… and “bark back” at the people who blame them who are usually right in the first place…

The only evidence we have in the area of this claim is with medals. What do people do with medals? Do they compliment their teammates on doing a good job or do they say things like “I’m main tank and I have gold damage, so clearly the DPS aren’t doing their jobs so I’m going DPS now” - leaving out the fact that the Reinhardt charges in, swings his hammer until he dies while his entire team is left behind without any protection?

The point is that a scoreboard can never provide context. A scoreboard will never be able to show that the Tracer on your team with bronze damage actually kept 2-3 of the enemy team chasing her around so that your team could mop up on easy 5v3s. A scoreboard will never explain that your Ana has bronze healing because your Brigitte and Roadhog spent the entire game flanking while your Ana got dove constantly with nobody doing their job and helping the back line.

A scoreboard will show you numbers, but it can not provide context. All it can provide is ammunition for people who want to blame their teammates instead of trying to solve problems or improve themselves.

Jeff has said, “We are not against a scoreboard.”

not a proper analogy, because not all 6 people can view everyone else’s medals.

Seagull has stated that the number one stat which conveys performance is how often you die.

“a scoreboard tells a tale, maybe not the whole tale” - Jayne

if I see a DPS or Healer with low numbers, I may switch and not say a word in comms or type in group chat.

It would be easy to tell if the Moria was doing zero healing, then we could be more certain then trying to monitor her live during the game. A Moria with zero healing deserves a “gameplay sabotage” report.

I agree with this statement, generally. We’ll have the ability to be more rational.

Numbers tell a story. Interpretation of numbers leave up to the individual. However, they should be provided and the fact they weren’t just makes the game more toxic. It is a fact. Sorry.

This is your unsubstantiated opinion, not a fact.

Apology accepted.

seagull jayne and surefour came to the conclusion that it won’t increase or decrease toxicity levels. I’ve yet to hear anything to the contrary from that caliber of players.

Which is why a potential scoreboard should be shown AFTER the game,
not before, not during!

I’d take this over nothing. If we had a live scoreboard and I saw a DPS underperforming, I would swap onto DPS. I wouldn’t have to say a thing.

I wouldn’t be against it, but the fact remains that it wouldn’t provide context.

Some people here just want a scoreboard during the game to see who to blame. In fact, one person in here admitted that he would use it in the middle of games to blame people.

So what? Blame is the only way people will actually learn to play the game properly. They delude themselves into thinking they’re playing good when they see all gold medals… but they’re feeding and their K/D ratio is like 5 and 15…

taking peer review away from the game is detrimental to it’s health

Thank you for this example of why a scoreboard would not be useful. The only way you will climb out of Bronze, Silver, or whatever rank you wish to climb out of is by improving yourself, not by blaming others.

Believe me when I say that I could climb 3 tiers from where you are in a matter of days, regardless of how bad the teammates I got were.
