Something is wrong with hitboxes in OW

I left Overwatch a while ago and played other shooters like R6 Siege, Fortnite, PUBG, and arena shooters like Unreal Tournament and Quake Champions and I’ve noticed something odd when I came back to OW for role queue.

Both while playing and watching myself playing, I seem to aim dead center on heads, take a shot and miss for some odd reason. I thought I was just bad, but after playing so many other games, especially fast paced arena shooters, I realised that there is something wrong about OW’s hitboxes and I’m not as bad as I thought I was.

Is there something I can do to fix this? My ping isn’t so bad either, it goes around 60-80 most of the time. Like, I played some instagib on a game called Xonotic (it’s a Quake/Unreal clone) and I had godlike aim (compared to my OW aim) today. None of the games I mentioned in the first paragraph has this issue either.

Am I imagining things, am I going nuts? I love Overwatch but this issue really makes me not want to play the game.

games working as intended in their opinion.

I personally haven’t had any issues with it. Most heroes get the bulk of their value from their cooldowns and ultimates anyways.

And the hitboxes in Overwatch are pretty generous.

I agree on that but maybe the issue is with the sync of 3d models and hitboxes. Like they’re not actually there when I shoot them, so it goes through their 3d models and misses their hitbox? Idk.

I always wondered why sniping is so hard in this game, but a cake walk in Paladins for example.

Or sometimes I’ll not play OW for a good while, come back, and click heads like mad, until I’ve adjusted to the game and whatnot and suck again.

I remember sniping, and seeing the hitmarker(not the one you see on your crosshair) but the mark on the character model, and no damage.

There is no acceleration, which except from making 1vs1s luck based even at OWL level due to AD teleporting spam, makes it impossible for the netcode to accurately keep up with the enemies position, especially when combined with barely existent hitboxes like D.Va/Tracer/Widow. It does not affect OWL though because that’s LAN so the rest of the playerbase can fo *** itself for all the devs care.

Unfortunately between the AD spam, the poor netcode and the hitboxes you are just looking at the wrong game if you seek skilled, fair gunplay. And that’s before you even add all the balance issues that keep getting worse and worse or the tiny FOV. But don’t worry “it’s working as intended” for Blizzard which is why the game is dying and Activision is taking over.

This is fine.

Were you playing Ashe by any chance?
Her scoped aim is weird, “off” even.

Dunno, personally had way more noregs in Siege honestly. Amount of times I’ve shot Ash in the head and she continues like nothing happened…

There’s nothing wrong with the hitboxes aside from being somewhat larger than normal, there are however a massive number of players who vastly overestimate their aim.

Any gameplay video of that?

Yes but I had the same issue when I was trying to learn Widow in the first year of OW.

Sounds reasonable but also very sad.

It’s probably because overwatch doesn’t have movement acceleration like these other games you play do. When you move a character in overwatch they immediately move at max speed where as in other games there’s a bit of a ramp up; they start slow and ramp up to their max speed movement. So precision shots are generally harder in ow and may require more flick motions. Watch your replays in slow motion and you’ll probably see people quickly moving out of your cross hairs as you fire.

Can you possibly go into your replay and record when you hit dead center and missed?

I haven’t really seen this for myself, though I’ve seen other weird things lately (The latest was a headshot on Doomfist’s foot?)

Overwatch’s lag compensation isn’t really all it could be. Combine it with the fact there is ZERO movement inertia, and there are lots of possibilities for noregs.
That being said, specifically doom’s hitbox is weird when he’s mid ability, hanzo’s head hitbox is buggy if he’s facing you and drawing, and mccree’s head hitbox is buggy, moreso if he’s facing away from you.

Replay shows it from server side. I use Shadowplay to record from my pov and, noregs aren’t the BIGGEST issue in overwatch, but they are an issue that needs to be addressed.

Oh yeah that’s true I didn’t think about server side vs client side when I made that comment.

I’m just curious to see it is all, even if it’s just to be nosy lmao.

In that case you will still likely be able to see some really crappy noregs on hanzo and mccree. Their head hitboxes are weird to say the least.

uhh yeah… they have a bunch of stuff happening on a engine and servers that cant handle it… not only have they ruined the balance that worked on their engine previously (like season 2-6), but they have set themselves up now with a game that wont even function properly… why u think there is so much random chaos now  its to hide all the cracks.
