Something is going on between blizzard employees and blizzard

you can expect new things to come out in their games or news for new stuff, to try and divert people from it. Mark my words. :face_with_monocle:

I care about the news, not the opinion of the person reporting it.

Jason Schreier, known VG journalist, formerly on Kotaku, now working for Bloomberg, published an article on an anonymous spreadsheet put together by Blizzard’s employees. The spreadsheet documented the huge pay gaps between positions, as well as people sharing their experience while being underpaid: skipping meals, using company coffee to sate their anger, choosing not to have kids because of precarity.

All around, a bad look.

Yeah, that’s why I wish I could watch the news from someone other than The Quartering. He’s very… opinionated. And it shows. edit: I mean I’m curious so I’m gonna go watch it, I just wish like… Your Overwatch or someone else had a video up. They scream less.

Basically Kotick gets too much money such shareholders were already complaining about, and QA staff isn’t paid well which is pretty standard across the industry.

Also dunno why people are pushing for more in an economy where there’s 20% unemployment.

Probably because there’s a big difference between ā€˜I have a job flipping burgers’ and ā€˜I’m a skilled laborer that spent a lot of time money and energy to be a coder, you need to pay me a living wage so I can live here and code’ ?

Oh thank you! Much better =)

Which makes the assumption that equivalent coders from other companies didn’t get layed off due to COVID.

Actually, not that standard, and that’s the issue here: Activision-Blizz are notorious for low pay, given their overall size.

Here we are with another PR nightmare for blizzard (:
Hopefully the workers get what they are owed and they get a union started soon.

Imagination.

So you’re saying… People shouldn’t complain about not being able to make ends meet at their coding jobs, because people in other coding jobs may have been laid off due to the pandemic, and they should just be grateful to have any jobs at all?

Just trying to pin down what you’re putting forward here.

edit: I mean if you go read that tweet someone linked, there’s people talking about how they literally are skipping meals and not making rent, like - we’re not talking about some folks who just want ā€˜more money’. We’re talking about a corporation that is paying it’s head CEO millions of dollars every year while they force their workers to subsist on wages that could not even support a single household family. That’s not okay in my book, personally. But if you’re down with that then that’s your opinion to have I guess.

Jobs usually pay relative to how replaceable you are. And they just got to be a lot more replaceable.

So you’re saying no one should complain about anything because they are replaceable, yes?

It’s gonna be like all the past dramas surrounding Blizzard, people will get offended for a few days, Blizzard will issue some soulless apologies/explanations (they might not even do that) and in a few weeks nobody will remember the drama happened in the first place.
