I just feel like leaver penalties for 2/20 qp matches is excessive. 4/20 felt fine. And in my experience, people don’t tend to leave high quality matches. It doesn’t really feel like the stricter penalty is combatting much when backfill is generally pretty quick and has a chance to actually improve match quality. Since they added qp penalties, l honestly think that the small amount of leaving that remains is more helpful than not. I want my tilted genji player that’s feeding their brains out to leave. We’ve all had games where your garbage teammate leaves and the match improves, or you are stomping then the enemy team gets new players and it’s a hard-fought match, or you get backfilled and you feel like a hero when you pull out a narrow victory. People just hardly ever seem leave matches where the outcome is in question and if they do it was probably something reasonable enough where a small punishment is not a sufficient deterrent, and I feel like it’s fine if people leave in a bad match.
In short, punishment for 4/20 matches is sufficient, the harsher penalties probably punish “good leaving”, and backfill is generally pretty good.

Finally someone acknowledges this. People just refuse to bring this up because they think the good matches don’t matter, only the few bad instances

If anything, I strongly believe we want leavers for faster matchmaking and higher match quality (as it replaces the leaver with a higher MMR player which often balances the match more successfully). I only benefitted from them and if people are scared to leave, I am instead going to be stuck with literal throwers…

Some people just enjoy when others get punished or banned or something is overregulated for the sake of it.

It happens quite often in here
There’s definitely a petty tyrant aspect to some of the drive behind this. It’s also a way of deflecting blame when you’re outmatched. “We would have won if that guy didn’t bail on us.” Ignoring the fact that you as a team were already probably sucking when that guy bailed, and he was just the first to see it.
If you’re winning, a leaver isn’t likely to turn it into a loss. And even then, most of the time the only reason someone left a winning fight is because they dropped or mom yelled at them or whatever, and the leaver penalty isn’t going to change that.
If you’re losing, a leaver isn’t going to somehow make you more losing.
The whole thing is just emotion-driven.
