I like to download game files sometimes, but I would like to share with you some little curiosities that I have noticed:
the intercom voice of the lunar colony Horizon is identified as “Chandra computer”. it could be the nickname of the base AI;
HAL-Fred Glitchbot (in Hollywood) contains many vocal lines that suggest that he was supposed to be the one to announce the phases of the game (start, end, play of the game, who has the most medals etc.) instead of Athena. the same seems to have happened in Junkertown with the Queen
in the Meka base they had to include vocal lines belonging to Captain Myung, who among the items also lists the various pilots, the MEKAs and their nicknames.
Luna (in Paris) and dance floor (in busan) would include unused vocal lines, such as consoling players returning to the respawn point or warning them that time is running out.
Luna includes several incomplete vocal lines that suggest her interactions with McCree, Zenyatta, or Hammond. The only one to have complete voicelines is with Widowmaker about a song that reminds her of “something”. however it is not known how to activate them in the gameplay.
Queen of Junkertown and HAL-Fred Glitchbot also seem to have had this kind of voiceline interacting with the game’s heroes. the queen has many vocal lines about junkrat and Roadhog, but she also has one that seems to refer to Torbjorn, when she mentions that another engineer would be useful in Junkertown. In Hollywood, the director would comment on McCree and his cowboy-inspired script several times, and has some references to an ape (presumably Winston);
Blizzard World had to include some complaints about environmental damage in the various areas of the amusement park.
Sir Uther (Blizzard World WoW Area) has voicelines that periodically indicate which events are active in WoW (including Easter, Valentine’s Day, Thanksgiving Day and Oktober Fest);
Mike Morahime’s voice in Blizzard World’s Founders Hall are vocal excerpts from the man at BlizzCon 2011, when the company turned 20 years old.
in the Paris police station you can hear the voice of a policewoman who spotted the two junkers. it is thought that she may be the same cop as Zero Hour.
even the archives event at King’s Row includes unpublished voicelines, in which some members of Sector Zero seem to be threateningly commenting on human beings and their “blood”.
in the voicelines on the Orca (Lijiang, Ilios and Nepal maps) Athena comments only to Ilios the objectives of the mission, where Talon is stealing historical artifacts. In the other two maps there is no additional information.
Numbani has vocal lines that are difficult to activate, such as the route of flights to the airport.
in Junkenstein Mode, the witch commented on the first 4 wayfarers (mccree, soldier, ana and Genji) trying to seduce them with promises to switch from her faction.
anonymous is the voice of the Volskaya Industries, but some phrases of her are quoted by Zarya. perhaps warnings from the Russian factory.
soldier 76 includes commentary in Operation Snowballs, in which he is thrilled with his intention to take the mission of the game mode seriously.
this is REALLY interesting. do you have the voice clips or what they say by any chance? this could be the dev team sneakily adding in some PVE interactions maybe?
yeah this is them 100% adding some hidden voice lines for OW2
thanks unfortunately, however, I have two types of personal problems: I don’t know on which channel to publish the single audio files and the ones I extracted are mainly in the Italian translation (my language). however for widowmaker / Luna I can give you an idea of the dialogue:
Luna: do you still ask “les saisons de amour”? it must mean something important …
Widowmaker: It was a long time ago.
Luna: already here, Mrs. Guillard? happy to see you again.
Widow: Luna, when you sing … I seem to feel something …
there would also be a very strange voiceline of Luna, which refers to a character feline or omnic:
Bounjour cousin. Le chat grimpe of her le mur et scrute.
it must be considered that some voicelines of Luna make a strong reference to the “Omnic resistance” described for Paris, and often cites Cabaret as a safe place for Omnics, in many of her voicelines. she also plays a lot of puns with cats. but despite talking to others with the appellatives “darling” or “my dear”, this is the only voiceline in which he refers to someone with the name “cousin”.
The fact that there are voicelines implying that Widowmaker used to go to Luna’s club with Gerard is absolutely mindblowing to me.
Like, how would Luna feel, knowing that Widowmaker was turned into the weapon that killed Mondatta, the face of the Omnic rights movement? Does she know? Does she hide her disgust for the sake of being a professional, or does she realize that this is not the Amelie she once knew and that she’s just a pawn of a bigger scheme, and pities her instead?
This is the kind of story content I am dying to get more access to.
it should be specified that they are voicelines which, at first glance, would seem completely inactive in the game, impossible to emanate. I was able to understand the path of the dialogues thanks to the overtool extractor databases (they also have a wiki about it, very particular). these voicelines would seem to be left “pending” just as it happened long ago for Sigma. Overwatch Interaction published the various (incomplete) voicelines, but now they have disappeared.
the only one to be back (more precisely during the 2021 anniversary) is the interaction with winston commenting on dr. Winston or reaper about his status. Same with widow some update ago.
in my opinion most of these dialogues are part of past or suspended tests, awaiting confirmation whether to include them in the game (perhaps with OW2 update).
I was very pleasantly surprised to find this vocal path with Luna. I think, however, that to contribute to this “regression” in deepening Paris is also the announcement of the rework that has arrived for the map. appear to be voicelines present for some time (almost a year or so, if I’m not mistaken).
Luna’s context seems particularly inspired by Iggy in King’s Row, a woman who welcomes Omnics to a secluded place. in interaction with (Presumably) Zenyatta says:
“You remind me of a monk who came here a long time ago to hear me sing.”
She probably refers to Mondatta talking to Zenyatta. but she is a voiceline proof of answer at the moment. as in the case I have already mentioned for Sigma.
@ Quelithe
exactly those voicelines . evidently there had to be Halloween 2016 but with the arrival of other heroes they have omitted them.
EDIT : BUT that voiceline with widowmaker in the video was for soldier
Well, it’s obvs y I never noticed: I hate messing with files. It makes me feel like I’m a hacker, or somebody else got into my computer to add crap to it, it’s just not nice thoughts overall when it comes to me looking at my own files. Idk if any of that is legit, but I’ll do an experiment to prove u right or wrong. Around the corner is gonna be Halloween, a.k.a. October Fest for WoW. I’ll go to Blizz World, find Uther, and see if the guy talks. If I see no Uther nor hear a word from Uther, then this ain’t legit. Otherwise, alright, ur right, and those were some cool things to have found out.
I seem to remember that passing several times between the port and the snaxxramasz last year Uther told me the WoW halloween event along with a quote to the Corrupted Blood (here mangling the name with “corn”) . but I’ll be honest: I don’t know how “automatic” this system is by the developers or if they should set it up manually. in the second case it would be a problem, since OW1 is not updated much in these little things (but we will see :))
in any case, I hope to be able to share the files that I have extrapolated somewhere, although they will be in Italian (being my language). for now, a small trace on what I said for Luna . but at that time there was no widow answer.
mmm, considering that Overwatch left a lot of space for the search for internal traces in the period of Sombra’s ARG, and that for years many famous videogame companies (including Nintendo) have had large communities of curious fans who dedicate channels for hidden tracks (see DidYouKnowGaming) … I don’t think it’s definable illegal. or at least, not until you tamper with the operation instead of just observing.
I remember very well the people who were looking for clues on the doomfist glove anticipating the teasers of Orisa in Numbani I am quite sure that these “curiosities” can actually increase our sympathy for OW rather than boycott it. until you set foot on cheating, of course.
