Some concerns relating to the new hero gameplay design

I like the idea of anchor type of support, but there are some concerns I want to address.

This topic is a bit speculative, so we don’t know much details yet, so be warned.

  1. The “pull the teammate back” mechanic is going to be sooooo toxic. Hear me out. I can spam heals on an ally for straight two minutes, and then they die eventually and type WTF WHERES THE HEALS. This community has way too many ungrateful blamers. Now every time you pull back an obviously dying target, he’s gonna yell at you that GJ I WAS KILLING HIM AND YOU SAVED THE ENEMY.

  2. The toxicity in this case is going to be two-directional. So often on a tank I get flamed from supports. Now they just gonna pull me back for sake of trolling. And I can’t do anything, I can’t even convince teammates that he is doing troll pulls. He will keep saying that he is saving me.

You should not design heroes that can move other heroes so much. It’s not gonna end well.

Special note for special people, I am not saying anything about being op or not op. This is not a power issue, it’s a gameplay design issue.

I kind of don’t think they’ll let you rip total control over your teammate… even if it’s for their own good. I kind of expect some sort of accept/deny thing, but then again, they did say something like “light trolling”.

Idk, but I feel like that concern is too obvious for them to just forget about or ignore.

I am pulling my teammates in the well on ilios when they are underperforming

I don’t trust their game design decisions.

I do think it will be abusable.
But, like… so is Mei’s Ice Wall. Depending on how it’s implemented, I can envision that the playerbase can still operate around it.

If it does become too bad, I can envision a simple solution: Teammate getting pulled back presses Interact to drop out of the retreat, but keep the protective shield. That way, even if they deny the support of their agency, the support is still able to provide a meaningful benefit to the ally.

Reading through some articles and how his ability works, I just can’t help but feel like this should have been Symmetra’s design AND rework.

The concept and design is just too similar.

Sym is fine as she is though.

If Mei’s allowed to troll her team, I see no reason why Lifeweaver shouldn’t be able to do the same.

The whole hero feels poorly designed. The pull is obvious, depending on it’s CD, strength and distance it pulls. I don’t really think a permission option would work as such a clunky pop up be too slow to really work 90% of the time.

If people can just ignore it and get a free shield it might as well just been a shield ability to begin with.

Then you have his health pack on death ability, which seems designed to either heal your enemies or bait your dumb team mates into going to the spot just killed by the enemy team/sniper.

I was thinking about this too. I don’t want a pop-up on my screen, like at all. As a tank I already have too many things to worry about.

and if it’s small, it be hard to see. Then there is how long is it good for? If it last too long people will just “pull” a tank in advance and they can okay the pop up when ever they need it later.

If it’s too short you most likely won’t even hit it before the effect goes away. Plus the player targeted might not even really know where the Lifeweaver is. Giving them a very bad sense of where they will be pulled too.

Your situational awareness of what will happen when you hit accept could more likely lead to a bad pull than if Lifeweaver trolled from the first place.

I think it can work automatically, let’s say the hero gets the shield, and if the hero receives a fatal damage that should kill him, it will cancel death, heal some HP, and grip back, like world of warcraft holy priest. Why I think that this is a possible option, cuz WOW devs work on the same game, which is kinda sus tbh…

But if this is the way, it’s OP. Canceling death in this game is becoming way too out of control. We have suzu, lamp, rez already. And many death escaping abilities.
