I want to pick sombra since soldier/cree is getting pretty boring but those are the only two im good at. So anyone got any replay codes I could watch to try and learn from? Or any notable tips?
Sombra you kinda just gotta sit in the backline and wait for the opportunity to hack or go for a kill or just farm EMP. She is a very high game-sense character to get the most out of her.
I figured theres two ways to play her. I can sit behind them and pick off supports, or I can stay with frontline to hack their tanks and farm EMPs. I much prefer to just sit in the front behind my tanks to hack their tanks, but often it feels like we’re getting outdamaged because I’m a sombra so our tanks fall quicker.
Yeah basically thats why shes not played. You kinda summed it up, her kit relies on a lot of setup and follow up when in reality other characters just do what she does more consistently without that setup and followup. If you wanna annoying supports in the backline tracer just does that so much better.

if you want more consistent assassinations and hacks from flanks, timing is just as important as anything else if not more. good timing will let ya get away with almost anything. its more or less the same as tracers, if you want peak distraction, wait in position until your tanks engage and then act .5s later. people react slower and are less likely to turn and help

when you’re playing for assassinations, don’t just dump your whole mag at once. it’s important that you don’t end up reloading unnecessarily cause Sombra doesn’t have the kit to stick around very long. this is an old but very useful video in that regard

this is a subtle thing you’ll sometimes see people do but they don’t explain it… you don’t have to strafe until people look at you, it just hurts your aim. meanig, after you unstealth, you usually have anywhere between .25-1 full second to stand still and focus only on aim. you gotta get an intuition for it, but generally if they can’t oneshot you or stun you it’s safe especially when your timing is good

her jump animation is hot garbage, break the habit of a/d jumping in duels fast

the closer you are when you unstealth, the harder it is to hit your shots once they react. the parallax effect will make you miss more shots than anything else in this game. sometimes backing up a little will help you get more consistent 1clips. gotta keep that spacing under control, especially if they’re trying to walk into you like a cassidy or doomfist

build an intuition very early on for when to switch your playstyle. she has a lot of options whether it’s assassinations, peel, tank pressure, hacks, farming emp, taking/denying duels or fighting for map control etc but she isn’t particularly great at forcing any one of them, so it’s easy to adapt and defend against her. its important to be able to switch it up quickly when you have too much resistance and choose what will get you the most value at the moment

Tips I can give is
Maximise your uptime, doesn’t matter that you don’t do a lot of damage, just be annoying from the side or Highground and prioritize hacks
If they have a flankers stay behind the supports so you hack them and they become useless, same with Hammond
Have a lot of ult tracking to combo EMP and cancel enemy Ults
That’s the basics, you can’t usually secure kills but 🤷

Don’t bother trying to solo characters unless you’re 100% positive that you can.
Feast off characters that are easy to hit. Your ult SHOULD win every single fight it’s used in… The Hog/Ball/DVA metas currently just make EMP so damn easy to farm.
Be involved in every team fight… Don’t be a “I’m going backline 100% of the time” person, or you’ll end up missing so many teamfights that you could’ve won with 1 hack.
Most importantly… Don’t keep translocator too far away, and never put it on a healthpack, put it NEAR to one, but not on one, and never in a spot where it’s m ore than 3 seconds from the teamfight.
No, he just does Unranked to GM challenges for views. Fitzy is the best Sombra streamer. He does off nuggets of wisdom as to what you should be doing with whomever he is playing with playstyle wise. For some you get to learn as he learns.
