Her permanent stealth and Translocator are on the chopping block. However, “there’s a new toy in terms of an ability or something in her kit that’s very different.”
So does this means Translocator is gone completely as an ability, or just that permanent Translocator is gone and it’s back to being on a timer before it disappears? It really annoys me someone would write it this way.
I am guessing it’s the first option which is sad because of all its functionality as a mobility tool. She will lose not only a huge mobility tool… but all of her vertical mobility. Just put it back on a timer!
Also, her significantly worse OW2 version of EMP is going to get even weaker. Sombra is going to struggle massively to position and time it correctly. It is already extremely hard to do in uncoordinated play… and is going to get much much harder.
They’re probably going to revert her back to her old state where Stealth and Translocator were on a timer, with that being said they also need to revert the nerfs those skills got after losing their timers i.e: bonus ms on stealth and cd reduction on translocator.
idk she works atm and its good she is countered by turrets. everyone needs a counter. maybe the devs play, and someone shid on them with sombra so theyre nerfing the whole her lol
You make these suppositions without really knowing what new tools Sombra will have in her future rework.
Translocator and Stealth may be gone, but it is possible for her to have new mobility tools that still enable her to effectively do the job she wants to needs to do.
Fun times, I managed to make 75 hacks without dying back in those days. Great teamplayer she was back then.
But, again, players didn’t play her like that and thought of her as some kind of Spy-expy from Team Fortress. So many players pushed hard for permanent stealth and more flexible translocator that Blizzard just caved and gave it to them. Never truly understanding how Sombra was supposed to work.
And obviously the new OW2 changes are still problematic. Sombra doesn’t work with her team, and she escapes punishment so easily even if she messes up or succeeds. EMP is still nigh-uncounterable; there’s literally no counterplay as Sombra can approach the positioning from stealth without risk and fire it off whenever she wants. If she messes up? Well she can just press Translocator and try again.
Bonus ms on stealth was reduced to about half of what it was when it became permanent.
Also cd on translocator was nerfed too when it became permanent then it was semi-buffed to the way how it works now.
ah dam was fun while it lasted. just hope her new revision is good and she comes out better then before. listening to that guy it doesnt really make me optimistic on their goals lol…
It would be nice to play with the old translocator + invis shenanigans since with the better movement speed you had to play a lot more aggressively and it brought natural pacing to her gameplay while also making certain areas way more manageable for heroes like Zen against her because they could go into larger areas and estimate when she would pop out to fight against her (+audio ques). Meanwhile Sombra would kinda get rewarded for the limitation by being able to get in a bit more often if she so choose to
Overall the changes to her hacked target becoming unhackable for a while would’ve fixed the main problems with her anyways and would’ve just been enough of a change for her. The problem with the old Sombra really was the change into 5v5 and single tank format since a lot of tanks would be rather useless if she could just keep hacking them
Getting rid of translocator also means she loses quick access to high ground and she cant get through any chokes unharmed. She is not only losing her general escape option if they remove it. I am curious what else they will replace it with as currently she would probably run a 0% winrate without her translocator. Especially since they want her to be fun to play and shes losing one of the most fun things in her kit which is general mobility. Perman invis being gone is a “i couldnt care any less” moment for me, as i argued against making it permanent way back i the day and they wouldnt listen. As long as she get better speed boost and contesting objectives during stealth back.
I get the changes, OW2 is all about making all heroes as generic as possible. Remove anything that gives a character a big identity.
Their goal is to make each DPS hero as much like Soldier as possible. Sombra has too many outlying abilities that go against this template.
The issue with Sombra is that she is too good in a team and all OWL teams use her, or she isn’t and nobody uses her.
There isn’t one single hero in OW2 that hasn’t been made more generic. Will we see another hero that is so different people wonder how it’s even going to work? Hamster springs to mind. We shall wait and see.
