First of all, I want to give a feedback about POTG’s and game endings in general. OW2 compared to OW1. Sorry for my bad english, it’s not my first language.
It is awful. The POTG’s are very short and the highlighted plays just feel very random. I had a game where I played Zarya and had 36elims. The play that I got as highlight was a 1 kill + 2 final blows where I just finished off targets. Had multiple high charge triple or even quadruple kills in that game, but the game said no, this footage is too dangerous lol.
The fact that there is no match resumé for anyone to look at after a game takes away it’s relevance, to the point of removing any motivation or engagement for the game. We use to have that dopamine rush after completing a match, seeing all the cards, numbers and medals in front of everyone in the lobby. But now it just feels like rushing from one game into the other and frankly, it gets boring. Take those key moments away from a player and watch your game fall deeper than it has ever before.
To my point regarding the title: Everyone remembers from Overwatch 1, when someone had a POTG and sometimes a sombra would steal it with her own highlight. First you would see your POTG intro starting, it would get hacked by the sombra player and you would see her play. In OW2 it’s the same thing, but in reverse XD You would see sombra’s hack then her play entirely and at the end you’d see your character without showing anything. It’s so random and I actually laughed my *** off when I saw this. Seems like a bug to me or just very sloppy work by the devs.
As a quick resume, I am quite disappointed about the state of the game as of rn, not going deeper into all the other critisism about the boring battlepass, the scam shop, the server/account issues etc. My question is how all of these issues will affect the overall popularity of the game moving forward. I just can’t see it. I really just feel blizzard tries to squeeze the rest of cash out of their customers, releasing a game that is in alpha state at most and that misses basic things most players are expecting. This has to backfire hard in the long term and the Blizzard leadership just doesn’t seem to have any clue of whats going on. They could’ve made so much more money in short-term but especially long-term if some things were done differently. In terms of QOL, there is room for A LOT of improvement, as well as for sounddesign. If you run around as reaper you can’t hear any of your surroundings because that reverb effect of the gun sound is so loud, jesus christ. In general, the reverb or hall effect that I’ve noticed on a lot of sounds in the game could be tuned down (they said it sounds cool). Sometimes, all characters sound like talking from inside of a toilet bowl. Idk if that’s cool.
Actually they should hire me as a product tester and advisor, human thinkbox, sound engineer and game visionary, not even joking.
As I’m gonna end on the positives, I’m gonna say that the gamedesign overall is good, 5v5 and faster gameplay solves a lot of problems ow1 had. Of course the art side of the game is exceptional. I wish I could add more but there just isn’t atm.
The future will tell if they really wanted to kill their own game (probably not), or if this patch is just really rushed content and that their adding back stuff like the LFG feature, overhaul the reward system, the comp symbols etc. and all other things that the community wants and needs. Because if there is no community, you can not grow it, and you can’t sell your cosmetics and battle pass. If you just want the cheap money, you might as well just abandon the game and release a new cashgrab like candy crush.
