But her job isn’t to fight directly, it’s helping her team by hacking healthpacks and enemies. She can still do that, it’s just less forgiving when you try to do it directly in front of someone now.
That’s what made her F-Tier in the first place remember? In high level games, she’s played as an EMP bot because playing her as a backline harasser does not win you games.
The Sombra mains play her like you say, and they will also tell you that it takes a lot of work for little payoff to play her that way. A Sombra that’s exclusively a backline harasser on your team means that she’ll never be with you on a team fight and you may as well be fighting 5v6 on the point as she has the lowest damage among the DPS.
The buffs were meant to allow Sombra to be more viable and actually allow her to help out in a teamfight. As well as be able to follow through on her own setups if the rest of her team isn’t helping her out.
All I want is the .8 secs back instead of another layer of randomness and inconsistency added to her kit that is entirely based upon being consistent.
Oh yeah man, there was all kinds of “the sky is falling!!!” type stuff the whole way through. There were definitely people that did see it coming and called it out, but they were typically downvoted into oblivion because they weren’t either “Omfg no mass rez!?! DPS ults will kill teams constantly etc etc” or “DM is useless Dva is made of paper mache totally unplayable,” etc.
It was crazy times.
hack still being .65 seconds is the only reason why I would want to play this first. But at the same time hacking during a team fight is your contribution to the team fight. You aren’t there for your damage. If that was the case just play 76 or something. So if sombra can only reliably get hacks off on ambush attacks in the back lines or from elevation her viability will be worse than before the “buff”. If she can only reliably hack in certain situations her value is going to be loaded into EMP. EMP that has been nerfed. It’s a serious concern for sombra players.
Huh, strange, I thought pretty much everyone was aware that they were pretty strong.
Currently though, this just isn’t a healthy change for Sombra. She’s nowhere near a meta pick atm and just handing her nerfs doesn’t help. If you want to nerf her, fine, but compensate it fairly.
The issue here is that it’s just an outright nerf with no compensation.
But why should she be able to get hacks off with people shooting at her? And again, you can get hacks during a teamfight, you just have to do more than hold M2. Either disengage and find the right angle to approach from, or use the pressure from your team to catch them off guard to get a hack.
Idk but her hack is still pretty fast. I think this changes don’t heavily effect Sombra.
But a Dva bullet that does less than 1 damage stops hack… this might make her less viable in my opinion. Forcing Sombra to play on high ground. These changes could work but I’m not sure… No PTR for console still…yay
DUDE youre not playing in a bullet hellstorm every game. if theres spam, go behind, go to a highground or hey maybe fire your gun? sombra should be more than a hack machine

you DO NOT have to be close to do good damage with sombra
I disagree. Even with this nerf, she’s still more viable in teamfights than she was before. Hack is stupidly fast, and again, the same as before until after you’ve been interrupted.
I hope so (10 characters required)
why should hog be able to drink in the middle of a fight, or hook? why should genji be able to double jump when damage?? every character can use their skills uninterrupted by damage. She should atleast have a chance to use hers.
You clearly haven’t searched very far. Their Battletag is Nechoo#2368 and they are currently standing on 4 days worth of Sombra play in Quick Play alone–as evidenced by their Overbuff profile–.
How about adding a bit of threshold to her hack, so she can’t get interrupted by taking almost non-existent damage, like 1 bullet from tracer over whole map, or 1 dva pallet over huge distance, this damage is pretty much 0, but still interrupts her hack.
Her job isn’t to fight directly? Sombra is a stealth assassin and disabler. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty certain the process of assassination involves a fair bit of killing.
Sombra’s job is to make openings for her team through her use of Hack, as well as be able to take pressure off of her team by harassing the enemy and y’know, assassinating people. Sombra allows herself to assassinate people by bringing them down to allow her somewhat (comparably) weak Machine Pistol.
In a team-fight, Sombra’s usage is to disable the enemy with the Hack ability. This change mentioned by Geoff is going to cripple her in that regard, as well as several other scenarios. Point is, there’s a good change this change will harm her, as well as her consistency overall. If you just leave Sombra to use her Machine Pistol and Translocator, you may as well just switch off the Sombra and pick somebody like Tracer or Soldier: 76.
The buffs to Sombra were meant to allow her to be more consistent overall and reduce her reliance on health-packs to farm EMP. They wanted to make engage her more in team-fights and allow her to provide her utility more consistently. This change means that Sombra will often be unfairly punished for taking some inevitable damage in a team-fight. The counter-argument to this is that it allows Sombra to spam her Hack ability until it works. If Sombra is spamming Hack, she is not damaging or providing any help to her team at all, and if she is just sitting there spamming Hack, why are you allowing her to feel free to spam it?
She does have a chance to use hers? Her entire kit supports her being able to get around/behind enemies, at the cost of being weaker at direct head-on engagements. That’s her strength, and direct encounters are her weakness. She CAN work in direct teamfights, but she won’t be as effective as if she’s in the positions she’s meant to be in. That’s how it should be.
This is pretty awful. You might as well just change the hack time back to how it was before instead of this. Her hack made her a more powerful counter against Genji and Tracer, and now they’re getting off scott-free again.
because they dont have invisibility(useful for getting behind your enemies if you didnt know) and a translocator (useful for getting out). these abilities also dont completely disable a characters abilities and passives making them very vulnerable. YOU DONT HAVE TO HACK EVERYONE YOU WANT TO KILL. Stop getting so angry your “I win” button cant be spammed
She doesn’t, her hack stops with 1 damage. She just wasted her time rather than using her gun (which is the weakest among the DPS). And if she has to use her gun, you would have been better off with a Tracer or a Soldier76.
A 2 second delay on 1damage means Soldier76 had already fired off his rocket, Moira’s, Roadhogs and Reapers ults cannot be stopped. Sombras kit is meant to allow her to be fast and do things in the nick of time.
I’m sure during all this hoopla, you’ve probably heard of a tiny little argument over 0.15s. Well, heres a 2 second one.
Disengage means team fight’s already over by the time you get back, or atleast what window she had to hack is gone, Sombra is fast, but not that fast. 1 damage from random directions happens far more often than you think.
The only way you can hack reliably is if you go as a dedicated backline harasser, which means your team is fighting 5v6 on the point.
