Her toolkit is too focused on ‘out of combat’ use and utility, it leaves her very little to do while actually in combat; and this is her downfall. She relied on EMP, she was too niche, she relied on Hack, she was too annoying.
Where else can we go?
Invisibility only works out of combat, with zero use once engaged.
Translocation is usually pre-applied, making it a get-out card, leaving combat altogether, or as a tool to gain high ground. It can be used as a clutch Blink, but it’s very rarely effective for this, because it’s slow and more easily tracked than Blink. It’s an out of combat ability.
Opportunist is just basically useless, you can see low health players but not their high health friend stood with them; chasing someone down with it is unnecessarily risky in most instances.
I look at these an sometimes I almost feel like she’s built for a different game than what Overwatch turned out to be, since Hack and EMP aside, everything else is concentrated on what she’s doing when she’s not fighting. The pace of the game doesn’t offer much downtime to set up - leaving your team to do so leaves them shorthanded, 5v6, you don’t want to do that too long too often - and people are grouped so Opportunist seems more wasteful. Maps allow basically anyone with vertical mobility and/or speed opportunities to sneak about without the need for Invisibility.
That puts a huge onus on Hack and EMP to be good, and to be effective, because the rest of her kit is by-the-wayside once the shooting starts. Yet, they seem ever no-allowed-to-be, because they’re apparently more annoying and more oppressive than death itself.
So please, look at her kit as a whole, see if you can give her something new to fight with, not just a sub-par Ingram.
I see what you are saying, but really I think her design is one meant for planners. She prepares before the battle, so her abilities are all set-ups for later.
I disagree. People just have to come to terms with being hacked. Thats her design and if being annoying would be a legit reason to be nerfed into the ground then Genji wouldnt see the light of the day. She needs bug fixes and compensation buffs, this would bring her into a healthy place.
I would love for people to come to terms with it, but it’s yelling at a brick wall at this point. People simply cannot be rational about CC. I’ve found that abundantly clear since testing Sombra on PTR, even before then the comments in speculation about her.
I’m also not saying remove Hack, if we’re going to look at curtailing existing CC like Hack then you cannot do that without looking at what you’re going to do about the likes of Tracer and Genji for whom its an indirect buff.
Maybe Hack could be moved to a secondary weapon rather than on RMB, so she can have some other secondary fire ability.
Disagree. Basic positioning allows you to determine the safety of engaging these targets. Not only that, you can call out these targets. “Soldier one, left side” etc. Theres a lot of heroes like tracer that can easily dive the enemy to deal quick damage before they can react and then recall, etc.
Ultimately I agree with Deykar, though. People just need to deal with the fact that hack exists, and while powerul, its not the end of the world.
What I dont understand is why when it comes to sombra all the sudden things are special. She has a 1% pick rate and yet when people play against her, shes the only hero in the game where you shouldn’t have to change your hero to avoid getting countered. Playing rein into a sombra is somehow something hats supposed to be acceptable, and the fact that sombra hard counters rein is actually just her being OP. She’s the ONLY hero where I hear people try and make this argument, and I truly dont get it. I don’t see genjis complaining about winstons, or winstons complaining about bastion.
…except every single hero in the game relies way too much on abilities for a silence ability to be meta. But yeah, there’s no point in posting this because you’re just going to give another biased, angry response.
Running away doesn’t mean they have low HP. There are certain heroes that you probably don’t want to dive at full health. Someone like a McCree can easily shut down you or a tracer from full health (especially for someone like tracer who can’t one-clip him). But knowing that the hero is actually below 50% health drastically improves your odds and makes that dive potentially useful.
You can also make these callouts without having been the one to deal the damage. You can only see enemy health bars if you recently attacked them, so sombra having this information always available, and available through walls at under 50% is invaluable data. You can inform your team that a group of 2-3 retreating people are really weak. You can tell your team that the roadhog is really low and we should all switch to focus him, etc. Personally I believe that if you think this move is useless, then you’re not making effective use of it.
Everyone complains about everything, but I don’t see genji mains coming on the forums and trying to make a real case that Winston is too strong versus genji because theyre aware he’s a counter. People who complain about sombra dont seem to grasp this. Instead of realizing she’s a counter to their hero, they just argue that she’s OP. There’s a lot of heroes, including tanks, where hack has little or no impact.
Whatever their health, they’re usually running toward a team mate, or a healthpack. Or both. Asking a team mate to pursue is risking them overextending into a very bad position; in most cases if they’re gone you’ll be in a better position to handle them together if/when they return.
I get your point, but it’s very very limited, in most instances I don’t find it useful at all. I’m sorry.
They don’t, because they can so easily escape him. Winston’s not really a significant counter to him. If he was, we’d never have seen much of him in OWL or other tournament play as we have. Actually a very poor example.
They were very quick and very vocal to start complaining about Sombra, however.
i feel like if they get rid of the translocator she will have to play with the team like how you play when your going to emp. keep invis. and give her a new ability for the translocator, like a virus dart thing she shoots out ( kinda like ana’s sleep dart) maybe with some cool animation and it can steal ult charge from the enemy.
so you steal ult charge from eneimes rather than the hit and run she does now or the health pack bot she was before. could make her more engaging and could set up for a dragonblade and stuff. basically just turns her into a high risk hero if you play her like you do now
Actually, TL is the one thing I really wouldn’t want to give up, the vertical mobility is huge. Means more time setting up though as you wait for it to set your escape again yawn.
No, REINHARDT gets effected most. D.Va just shoots Sombra, usually kills her or forces a TL. Zarya Bubbles the moment she hears the beeps, Orisa fortifies on the same cue. Winston just dives on her and kills her.
Reinhardt =/= Tanks. Stop perpetuating this crap. I’ve 500 hours tanking, and Sombra doesn’t bother me so much as Reaper does, because Hacked =/= dead.
Please, no reworks. I am sick and bloody tired of nerfed characters getting reworked into something weird that’s either OP or UP.
Just revert the Hack nerf, get rid of the new LoS check (like it or not the 0.1 second was what made Hack work against Tracer and Genji) and then leave her be.
You can add QoL changes sure but the basic function of her kit should stay as it is.
This is a lie. The only time this is true is for Reinhardt when he’s mid-push in the middle of the enemy where he can be focused down.
“are useless” - no, not true. Most tanks still have functionality after being hacked. Orisa still has a shield up, and it doesn’t stop a fortify in progress (easy to engage before hack completes). Roadhog is still very dangerous and can one shot you with a good right click at the same range that she commonly fights at. DVa is still quite tanky with armor and her cannons can dish out a good deal of damage and force her to retreat. Hacking a Winston doesn’t do much at all unless you get it off mid-jump. His play style is to dive in an place a barrier. Both cooldown are fairly long. If you’re 1v1 with a Winston you are the underdog if you’re within his range. Zarya has almost no impact from being hacked. Her abilities have long cooldowns and are often on cd from being used. Her barrier also can prevent the hack and then she can focus on the sombra and the damage prevents the hack.
Additionally, if sombra doesn’t kill the target, youre feeding ult charge to their supports as well. Don’t make it sound like only sombra gets something from it.
Maybe reduce the timer to like, 5 secs so she uses it more as mobility than as a get out of jail card. In return make so she can use invisibility in the middle of the fight so she can get out with it? just an idea
