This is all reminding me of how less-than-totally loyal various members of Talon are to the organization. While I don’t question the loyalties of Reaper, Doomfist, and various other characters who aren’t on the roster at this time, (Maximilian, Sanjay, etc.) I’m not so sure about others.
Moira is morally ambiguous in general, and even being on the Talon Council, I doubt she sees it as more than another job; a means to reach her ends, if you will. As for Widowmaker, while she has been brainwashed and conditioned into the cold-blooded killer we know her as now, I’m not sure if the conditioning had totally taken away her emotions (beyond the satisfaction of a good kill) as we see her at her husband’s grave in Reflections, possibly regretting her actions. Maybe the conditioning just wasn’t as thorough as the Talon scientists (including the before mentioned Moira) would have liked and they’re still trying to iron out the wrinkles.
In regards to Sombra and Baptiste, they aren’t that loyal either. Not only did Sombra throw the assassination mission on Volskaya in order to blackmail her, but I’m pretty sure she’s just there as she unravels a conspiracy, plus some payments on the side. I like the idea of Sombra being the one who told Baptiste the truth about Talon, convincing him to leave Talon entirely. I wouldn’t be against shipping the two of them together, but I’d be satisfied if some scenario like I described did happen.
I think Moira has full loyalty to Talon because they encourage her to go far past morality to progress science. Unless another organization can offer her more, which I doubt, I think her trust in Talon is here to stay.
They let her be as unethical as she wants
(Look at Widowmaker)
Of all the Talon members revealed Moira is the most loyal.
She’s at the head of the table in masquerade too, hinting she’s got more favour than other members.
Tbh at the same time, they were good friends yes but when has Sombra not ever done anything for the sake of gain?
Having Baptiste still in contact and under her radar would be handy should things go wrong for her. Reaper and Doomfist discussed what she’d done at Volskaya Industries - they know she sabotaged the mission though didn’t reprimand her because it turned out to be better for them that she was still alive (if I recall).
I just find it funny that people see friends and immediately jump to ‘ship them!’. You can be friends with people and not be romantically interested in them.
