Sombra is a balanced hero

She’s actually pretty weak at the moment.
It baffles me that people think she is overpowered, any amount of teamwork makes her disengage from the fight.

Being invisible for 2/3rds of time match will do that to your win rates. It’s a 4v5 for most of the match. Even if you manage to ruin the support’s day, you are not really helping your team win.

I don’t think she’s overpowered.

I think she’s poorly designed and inherently frustrating to play with and against.

Yall have the argument that Widow is not fun to play against because she could change the flow of the game so they should nerf her…so keep that same energy for the universally most hated to play against hero in the game: Sombra

As a mercy main, i fear sombra less than i fear widow.

I don’t need to play any differently regardless of if the enemy is running sombra or tracer.

With widow i must always make sure there’s a wall between myself and her.
Which would be easier if people actually pinged her location when they’re killed by her.

It’s got nothing to do with power level. It’s because she is laughably easy to play and get value from with zero team work. She has some of the best 1v1 potential in the game and can spawn camp almost every support in the game and straight up gate keeps other heroes from being played.

Thats all good in theory but then you realize that this is a solo experience for the majority of players and communication is not recommended nor incentivized.

This excuse of “just rely on other people to play the game at all” is terribly weak.

She’s not op. Just the way you have to play against her if you want to minimise stress is boring as hell.

People seem to really struggle with the concept that just because a character is poorly designed, that they must be imbalanced.

You can balance any character to 50% WR. Doesn’t mean they’ll be fun to play with, or against.

Except Kiriko and Baptiste. Immortality supports can deal with her easily.

She is very strong with aim. She kill target in 2 seconds. Problem is virus damages. It should intel spell. Ult charge, cooldowns, amos, health…but no damages. And hack : 0,1 silence but instant cast time.

The whole “If played correctly, they’re very strong” argument always irks me.
“With aim,” every other hero is still better at killing than Sombra.

Doesn’t matter how weak or strong her damage is. Her ability to stop you from using your abilities will never be not overpowered.

Built in shut-off switch with 0 skill checks to use and the added benefit of being able to set yourself up perfectly because of invis.

lol!

Lets’s see

  • Auto Invis. Because pressing a button is hard
  • Baby circle so you don’t bump into enemies like a dwerp
  • Afk elim buttons, because aiming hitscans is for losers
  • Virus has no fall off. It can actually travel for the entire lenght of the map
  • Missing half the shots, and Still, getting the elims
  • Wall hack for Everyone on the team once a target is marked
  • Healpacks not available until OW3 comes out
  • Auto TP, because… bruh, you really need a button for that?
  • And once again, Auto invis as soon as TP goes out
  • … cancel every critical ability, and most ultimates, in the game

Add a little projectile size here, and a little 20% healing penalty there…

I wouldn’t complain about EMP silencing abilities until next season, while also being one of the hardest ultimates to stop, and creating an instant mass amount of damage on all affected targets… and oh yeah, it also weakens all those affected for its duration

The worst part of Sombra, is that she didn’t need any changes coming from OW1.
The gameplay and design were perfect.
But we are in the F2P era now; so we need to shake things up every now and then to keep Streamers and TikTok happy

And yet, that’s not all

The actual worst part from this garbage rework, is Not knowing that this Diamond moron can get free elims with absolutely no effort, but watching all these noobs missing Virus?

… what a sight!

How do you miss Virus?!
How do you miss an ability while walking around invisible?!

And then, it all comes around when you see that this boosted Diamonds are actually Silvers, getting carried by this broken trash character that keeps getting buffs because new skins and collabs are on the horizon

Wake up kid; and get real

You know what ? Yes i think she was perfect in ow 1. ^^

Utility hero.

Even if wallhack is cool from ow 2.

Correct

And not only searching for the TP created additinal gameplay in a sense of mouse and cat situation, but the moment She was out, it granted relief from the fight

Now you can get hacked 8 times in 49 seconds; none stop

Un f real

No one is saying that we can’t have a character in permanent stealth in a FPS game

But we need to define clear rules for it to make it any sense

Instead, we have a bunch of Bronze4 devs in the balance team, and a bunch of silvers trying to justify stupidity with Overbuff numbers, while Tournaments are being carried by one single hero

And by the way, the first DPS character I ever used in Overwatch, was Sombra

Because I genuinely believe she is a Great character

But this is just out of control

What baffles me is that people can’t seem to understand that Sombra’s just incredibly annoying… No one considers her overpowered, she’s simply irritating to play with AND against.

She’s like a little fly that’s constantly buzzing in your ear but you can never seem to get rid of it.

Sombra is absolutely not balanced. By default, she will always have an unfair leg up on the competition, by virtue of being INVISIBLE. I agree that she isn’t ‘OP’ in terms of general damage, but utilities like that make her an absurdly unfair hero to fight.

Invisibility gives Sombra a massive advantage by:

  • Giving her total control over who she is going to engage with, and when she is going to engage. (She can’t be snuck up on. She can actively avoid ‘scary’ targets while targeting only the squishies. She can also avoid being ganged up on, by focusing on the backline and the stragglers.)
  • Giving her the element of surprise. (In addition to teleporting, which gives her the ability to manoeuvre into strange attack angles which give her another surprise angle, this quite unfair. It’s good to use the environment to your advantage, and I like that she CAN get into those weird attack positions. But it’s not fair that she should be invisible in addition to that. In combination with the fact that she can pick off squishies and target lone enemies at opportune moments, this is an insane advantage)
  • Very quiet footsteps make her extremely difficult to locate without a headset. To be honest, I didn’t even know she HAD footstep noises while invisible until recently, and only because I googled it. I’ve literally never heard her footsteps before. Even if she were louder, it’s still terrible design that you can’t locate her without a headset. You shouldn’t have to buy extra items (pay to win) just to compete against this hero with any level of consistency.
  • She can disappear WAY too easily when she needs to disengage from battle. Teleporting gives Sombra the ability to disengage quickly. That’s good, and I support it. However, she can turn invisible very quickly after disengaging from combat, which gives her an insane advantage. She can easily dip, turn invisible, get some healing, and return to combat in record time to finish you off - assuming her teammates haven’t finished the job for her, since you are still very much a visible target lol. If Sombra teleports to an area with verticality, she’s impossible for many heroes to catch.

Sombra is not good at doing a lot of damage. However, she is INSANELY powerful, despite that. Her insane invisibility makes her an absolute nightmare to face.

“Any amount of teamwork makes her disengage from the fight” is simply not a good argument for Sombra being ‘weak’. She has the same HP (250) and Armour (0) as the following heroes:

  • Ana
  • Ashe
  • Baptiste
  • Echo
  • Genji
  • Hanzo
  • Illari
  • Junkrat
  • Kiriko
  • Lucio
  • Mercy
  • Moira
  • Pharah
  • Sojourn
  • Soldier 76

So yeah, she’s on even playing ground, in terms of how ‘beefy’ she is. In fact, she’s probably at an advantage. You’ll notice that these characters either have self-healing abilities (Mercy, Moira, Soldier 76), or they are difficult to hit (Echo, Pharah). Some don’t have either one of those advantages (Junkrat). Arguably, because Sombra has the ability to be more selective about how she approaches, and because Sombra can disengage and literally vanish from combat, she is actually OP compared to everyone on that list, in terms of survivability. This is FAR more important than damage dealt. That’s why everyone hates Moira too lol (and I say that as a Moira player. I’m being fair, here).

In terms of damage dealt, I agree that Sombra isn’t very ‘strong’. She requires more precise aim than many other heroes, and she doesn’t do a lot of burst damage. However, she MORE than makes up for it by having insane survivability (teleport/invisibility), and insane control over when and how she chooses to engage. She has a crazy advantage over other players in many respects.

The only time I can see “any amount of teamwork” forcing Sombra to leave combat is if the player is simply not very good. Bad aim means you’ll get taken down easily, because you can’t finish off your targets. And bad strategy means you’ll get jumped by everyone the moment you engage.

To be fair, “any amount of teamwork” with your own team is how the good Sombras kick butt. May God have mercy on my eternal soul for saying this, but if your team’s Sombra knows how to engage in combat with the rest of the team, they’re a massive asset. I hate Sombra so much it’s unreal, but I’ll acknowledge that she’s useful when the player knows how to mesh with everyone else. Solo Sombras are usually not great.

Kiri, bap, brig, moira, weaver.

Illari is a 50/50 and ana is a bit worse unless you land sleep, if you land hack virus on Lucio he can struggle and zen/mercy struggle. 5/10 can reliably win and only 3 consistently lose.

If she was really OP, do an unranked to GM with her. (you would NOT make it far)

Sombra is a niche hero that is best picked into heroes who either rely on their abilities or heroes who scope in.

As long as you don’t make yourself her target and always peel for your teammates she will not get value.
