I am so sick of the vitriol and tribal warfare going on in these forums. It’s tiring and stupid. The truth is that the devs should have never reworked her into a permanently invisible assassin going into Overwatch 2. It was a stupid design decision, most Sombra players never wanted it, and now that they’ve gotten rid of it, her kit can’t function. They’ve gotten rid of her hacker identity and her identity as a flanker. What we’re left with is a nothing burger of a character. A shadow of her former selves.
They shouldn’t have turned her into a permanently invisible assassin, and they shouldn’t have gutted her when they realized people don’t like that playstyle. They shouldn’t have created a character with 6 seconds of ability lockout either during Overwatch 1. Why it took them so long to learn that designing a character around being a permanently invisible assassin who can blow supports up in two seconds is a bad idea, I have no clue.
They need to strike a balance between her old utility-DPS playstyle and her invisible flanker playstyle. One that isn’t too strong or frustrating at either one. I’m sick and tired of Sombra being juggled between two different extremes, when the answer has always been clear. Meet somewhere in the middle. It’s not even that hard to do. Have clear windows when she can use invis and flank, and clear downtime where she sits back and uses her utility for her team.
Can we all just collectively agree to blame the devs and not Sombra, Sombra players, or players who struggled or were frustrated with playing against Sombra? It’s their stupid design decisions that have led to this division. There is plenty of common ground here, and there are ways to give the character back some kind of identity without her being an absolute nightmare of a design. Come on gang, I’m sick of all this fighting.
I still think it’s funny that the original Overwatch team, I believe it was Jeff, said that Sombra wasn’t and isn’t going to be turned into an assassin.
Then they tried it in OW2 and it was almost universally hated, but they double and even triple downed on it. Now no one is happy, Sombra is garbage, and we’re no closer to a character that everyone likes or at least tolerates.
The issue is that you can’t run around while invis, on top of melting enemies without, full “team effort”
No other single character has such requirements in order to stay alive. Not-a-single-one
And specially for such a low cooldowns overall, for repeating the same aggression; over and over, and without Diminishing Returns. Like Discord for example.
You just keep spaming the same target; its all good
No other single character has such requirements
Consider that the only time we see such behaviour, is when someone is ulting
And Sombra, is not ulting my friend. She is just passing by
So, you now have to choose. You continue to run around while invisible, or you delete players without awarness
The issue is for sombra to be really good at the skill level of genji & tracer she needs to be broken.
Her kit is utter garbage/toxic - there is literally no way to save that kit either than making her a total mess which she was last season or now this which actually requires you to have skill.
Right now i have sombra’s who are runnin right into the middle of the map and getting cauight because of their fade.
Then there are ones which are hiding behind a wall and pressing hack and waitin for cooldown to reset untill the hacked enemy does not die.
So the compromise is that in order for Sombra to be fully effective, she has to go invisible, but in doing so, her escape ability goes on cooldown, just to kill some clueless player, while she has no way of knowing who’s not paying attention, making it more about luck than skill? Great compromise. They might as well give me an ability that rolls a die, and every time a 6 is rolled, a random player on the enemy team dies.
Besides, what you’re describing is something that applies to assassin Sombra, which nobody wanted in the first place.
If I remember correctly, this was due to her ability translator. People were annoyed back then that her translator could be placed across the map. And with this, she could escape a fight to virtually anywhere in the map and reset. Not allowing any easy way to kill her without one taping her or stunning her.
The developers had said that she wasn’t an assassin. Then OW2 came along, and suddenly she’s an assassin. That identity was given to her, and now they want to take it away again.
