Since everyone is so set on Sombra just being the answer to their problems let me explain why this argument makes no sense: Ya’ll want Sombra, the backline assassin hero, to stay in her own backline so that she can hack one person on the other team. Mind you, Sombra is already garbage right now as it is. She has to sacrifice her strong points (which aren’t even that strong) so that she can counter one specific hero. He doesn’t even have to engage, he can just play anywhere else and she has to sit there in eternal anticipation for him to just. Congratulations, you’re fighting a 5v6 now and you’re being punished for trying to counter Doom. Just hack him 4head
Doomfist’s worth it to hack though.
Who said sombra counters doom? Mccree is the better pick imo.
You see, the thing is, Sombra barely counts as a backline assassin. She really doesn’t have the lethality needed to kill the backline consistently, especially in this meta where survivability is through the sky and double shield pretty much isolates her from her teammates whenever she makes it behind.
She is best at farming ult charge off the tanks or large targets (Doomfist).
Her best usage is her hack, and getting the most crucial hack is what she strives for. Hacking the Orisa or Sigma doesn’t destroy their shields (at least on live anyway), so they are still able to partially do their jobs when hacked.
Hence, the most beneficial hack in this case becomes the Doomfist as he tries to dive into your team, leaving him with absolutely no lethality nor escape in the middle of 6 enemies for an easy starting pick. To a slightly smaller extent this applies to Wrecking Ball as well.
You see, the entire time Sombra is waiting on Doomfist to engage, Doomfist is also… well… not engaging.
It’s a 5v5.
I play both, and honestly, Sombra is way better at Doomfist duty than McCree.
The reason is because McCree has no mobility to avoid Doomfist, and a single instance of shield gain invalidates his flash combos. If flash is on CD, McCree can do zero squats to Doomfist, and he would just end up as a delicious punching bag.
Not to mention the fact that all of Doomfist’s abilities deny McCree his roll, especially uppercut. Picture this: Doomfist engages and slams McCree, 35+ shields, Mccree turns around and flash + fan, Doomfist survives and uppercuts immediately, McCree is stuck in the air with a reload animation, easy pick for Doomfist.
You can literally just stand behind your tanks and break shields while Doomfist does nothing, people who are constantly in stealth had better be farming EMP and ready to teleport back to the supportline to stop the Doomfist from getting out after a pick.
It is super easy to deny Doomfist with Sombra, she has like a 10 on the hardness scale of hard counters.
She only counters Doomfist in a team fight.
With the nerf, in a 1-on-1 isolated scenario away from the team fight, Doomfist should be able kill the Sombra a majority of the time. The hack last for 4s, and Doomfist CD last 5s, so it really doesn’t affect him much other than if is his skill is almost done it’s cool down. That 1s actually makes a difference for Sombra in dueling scenario.
Sombra was strongest when Doomfist abilities were on a 6s CD while Sombra Hack lasted 5s, however the buff to shorten Doomfist ability CD and shorten Sombra’s hack duration completely change it.
The issue isnt that she cant counter the Doomfist. The issue is that she has to sacrifice all other contribution for the team just to lurk in the backline waiting for him to jump in so shes ready to hack him to make sure shes in hack range and doesnt accidently get interrupted via damage. This leaves her team in a losing 5v6 battle which means even the hack on Doom doesnt make up for being dead weight otherwise.
Last week : “Sym takes more skill than Genji”
This week : “Sombra does not counter Doomfist”
OK i see where this is headed
(Turns on megaphone)
Yes…
Considering how much damage Doomfist can do and get out to safety having a big counter like Sombra is extremely useful, I always switch to her if they’re running a Doom and he’s causing a ton of havoc for our team.
Or… How about this idea, she can shoot, hack, harass, and EMP the enemy team? lol. If he doesn’t engage then that’s a 6v5, I’ll take those odds every time.
The thing is I used to find myself doing exactly what Fitzy was doing in that clip there, just sitting in the back line waiting for an enemy to do something, except as Lucio versus old Sombra EMP because of how broken it was. Sombra in her current state is a very potent Doomfist check, the only reason she isn’t seeing use is because her main source of damage, like most other DPS right now, is blocked via barriers, and nothing to do with her shorter hack duration or EMP cast time
Sombra counters Doom, but in order to do it effectively she needs to stay in stealth with healers on backline, wait till Doom dives in and hack him.
Which basically means throw the game because even tho you probably save your healers, Doom will just do something else while you as Sombra just do nothing and literally throw the game.
Sombra is not a character to save your team, she’s a ‘backline assassin’, but on the ENEMY backline, not herself.
So choosing Sombra to counter Doom will cause Doom trouble, but even more to her own team.
I’d take other heroes.
And nerfing Doom ofc but that’s another story.
EDIT: I wrote this comment without reading the content of the thread, what are the chances that we both used ‘Backling assassin’ to describe Sombra? LOL.
Maybe it was my subconscious.
Difference being that Lucio isnt dead weight outside of trying to counter EMP. Countering Doom is like the only justification people bring up right now to justify the Sombra pick. Lucio is a decent pick for their team in general. Against EMPs specifically its better to play either Ana who can heal from range outside of EMP range and still use nano for clutch saves, or Zen who is completely immune to hack when he uses trance.
Lucio gets countered because sound barrier gets canceled even after usage.
Sombra wasnt even used in 2-2-2 on the old patch in OWL without Sigma double barrier and before Sombra got nerfed. So thats no excuse either.
Her damage bad she can’t kill anything without support. Her hacking isn’t really that good since can hit her in order to interrupt.
I meant hiding out of LOS of both your team AND enemy sombra to use beat after EMP
I know what you meant. But you need to wait for the EMP because sound barrier gets canceled while active when she EMPs. If that werent the case you could predict it and counter it like Zen does with trance.
Sombra is not a backline assassin hero…
She doesn’t have the damage output or offensive abilities for that role. The hero you are thinking about is Tracer.
And hack doesnt just weaken Doomfist. If she was a hard counter she would erase his shield too.
Sombra hacks anything so in theory she counters everything
I hate to break it to you, but my two most played heroes are Doomfist and McCree, and I got good at McCree just to shut down Doomfist’s I couldn’t outplay. Your anecdote about not being able to kill Doomfist if flash is on cooldown forgets the critical part of McCree’s kit, which is shooting someone in the face. I can get uppercut by Doomfist 9/10 times and dink his head without need of rolling, FtH, or Flashbang.
