im not sure has sombra actually used her connections to katya volskaya in any way yet, i think it would be a pretty important connection not use.
lore is not important for blizz anymore, forget about it
You do realize that the people of the Overwatch Team that balance the game and create the lore are two completely different groups right? Of course it matters to them, we just don’t hear about it until it actually happens.

they still would have to fund second team (does it even exist at this point), and that would be waste of money they could grab.

Katya is watched by the media, if she soudently starts doing weird stuff, it’ll show. And… well, I’d like to make a PD2 reference but here’s the thing:
Katya as seen Sombra’s face. And “Sombra” was thought to be a group by some of the best hackers in the world up to the last comic.
Having people investigate on Katya might put Sombra in trouble.
So, no, Sombra probably hasn’t used her connection with her yet. It’d be for some BIG event, though, I’m sure.

But one of them pumps out an update every 2 months or so.
The other does it whenever they feel like it, with 1 year to create a lore event that advances the story line only for it to not really reveal much.
