I used to main sombra before her rework and I’m one of the rare people that actually played her less after her changes. While she’s a more usable character now, she’s also really awkward to play as and against and could really use some quality of life changes. Let me explain why.
First off we have her invisibility. This is super core to sombra and part of her identity. The problem is that it’s a passive now. Why? Because she has so many abilities there was nowhere else to put it. This makes everything awkward and bad. Pushing the objective is confusing, timing the invis so you can get away is confusing, the way it works with translocator is confusing. I think it should be an active ability again.
Next we have hack, another signature ability but it’s very problematic. This ability punishes movement tanks extremely hard and has interesting interactions which is good, but it’s also bloated to all hell. Why can you still hack health packs? Does it even make sense for a damage character to do this? Id rather it get taken away and given to a support character down the line, sombra putting a virus on health packs would make more sense right? Also there’s the ultimate visibility it gives on enemies, completely unneeded. Just a bloated ability.
Now let’s look at translocator. This ability used to require thinking about where to throw but now not so much. 99 percent of sombras just throw it randomly in the sky in hopes they are invisible by the time they hit the ground. If invis was a manual cast it would be better but this ability is just janky and designed in a way that encourages throwing it blindly in the sky.
Now we have virus. I think this is a healthier ability for the game than hack, but I think its design is restrictive. It does double the dps if the target is hacked first which basically means its only purpose is as a follow up to hack. This makes it very uninteresting and unfun to use or fight against. I’d rather the damage over time was in between the two and it didn’t rely on hack, at least it would be more consistent to use and fight, because as a recipient having a virus on you it’s very hard to tell how much it’s going to hurt
Finally we have EMP. It’s a great ultimate, but it’s just hack in 360 degrees. I feel like it would make sense to reduce the redundancy in her kit and make emp her only way of hacking or make hack into a short cooldown single target ultimate similar to how pulse bomb is a fast charging but relatively weak ultimate
