*SOLVED* [PC] "We're having a problem transferring data."

Hello.

Recently felt like playing Overwatch again last night with some friends, but I’m unable to update the game and receive the following error:

“We’re having a problem transferring data. Please check your internet connection just in case and try again.”

It provides a link to this Blizzard support page. I’ve tried everything it suggests to do with no luck. I’ve also uninstalled Battle.net and Overwatch, deleted every folder associated with Battle.net and Overwatch, cleaned my registries with CCleaner, uninstalled all Razer software since it’s been know to cause issues with OW anyways, flushed my DNS cache. Still nothing. Now I can’t even install Overwatch, I get the same error when I try.

Also one thing to note, my girlfriend was able to update OW and play it with no issues and we’re on the same network.

Anyone know how to fix this, or have seen this happen before?

EDIT:
Just to add an update to this.

I was able to successfully install Hearthstone, it’s just for some reason only Overwatch that is giving me this error and won’t install/update. I also tried resetting my router, and used my old mouse in case for some weird reason that was the issue.

No luck :frowning:

EDIT2:
I was able to resolve this issue by using a VPN. Once I connected to the USA - Phoenix server on PrivateVPN, Overwatch started reinstalling like normal.

It’s bizarre how someone else on the same network as me is able to do it without a problem, but I had to install it via a VPN in order for it to work.

Oh well! shrugs

Another option that worked for me just consisted of pausing the download when started, then change region and press resume. There, the download worked. And I just had to switch back to my region after completion.
Hope it helped.

This worked for me! I literally tried everything else

VPN fixed it for me! Thanks!

Hi! Did this problem persist for you? Do you have to use a VPN every time you update? Or was this a one time thing?

As of June 16, 2023, this is the only solution I’ve found to work. Turned on a VPN and the update started without any hiccups. The customer support shenanigans ended in failure and hours of video tutorials did nothing but mess up my system. Close all battle net applications through the task manager then turn on the VPN and then open and queue update.

I was having the same problem and did everything you mentioned and more. Using a VPN solved my issue too, thanks to you.

Blizzard should just change the potatoes in their servers. They are running low…
