[SOLUTION] Rendering Device Lost (Win10)

Hi all! I found this solution with some modified search terms. This has worked for me so far, with no single crashes at all.

  1. Find your Overwatch executable
  2. Right click and go to properties
  3. Go to the compatibility tab
  4. Check (tick) the option: “Disable fullscreen optimizations”

Note that I also did this for my Blizzard Launcher as well and anything else I could find that looked like an executable. I was having issues after both an NVidia update and also a Win10 update on the same day, including other programs that used to run fine crashing on a regular basis - and OW had become completely unplayable.

It seems this is a Win10 issue, NOT a GPU driver issue as most thought. Yes, my error logs from the crashes also showed the GPU crashing.

GOOD LUCK ALL!

Bruh this actually did it for me, at least so far. Been able to play for a few hours while alt tabbing at will without crash. Also was able to put my GPU clock back at base without issue.

Thanks a ton. It is weird that this is the only game that can’t handle this feature, though.

I’ve had a crash (sometimes multiple) practically every day I play and it’s been wrecking competitive for me.

I was super hopeful when I was this, but I already had it turned on apparently (from one of my many attempts at fixing the rendering device issue)

It’s a bit disappointing since I’ve sunk almost 1000hrs into this game that I’m still very much enjoying, but I’ll have to stop until I get a new graphics card probably (even though Overwatch is the only game that has this issue)
