From what I remember, soldier use to have a crazy straight spray pattern. It was almost consistently precise. Now the bloom affect is TOO large. Take the previous recoil, then the current recoil, and find that happy middle range. I don’t play soldier anymore and I truthfully don’t know why. It isn’t because of the recoil, I just don’t play him. Yet, I’ve seen his spray pattern and it is horrific.
CS is a pain to control the AK’s recoil, but the recoil had a pattern that was adjustable, you just had to pull the crosshairs downwards overtime. Soldier, I don’t care if you go left, right, up, or down. The spread is unadjustable. You HAVE no way of fixing this unless you burst fire. That makes soldier useless unless up close, and even that’s questionable.
Do something for me blizz… Watch games like CS and use the recoil mechanic’s like they do, where you have to compensate for the recoil. Reduce the bloom effect and Soldier can be somewhat useful again.

His spread is a bit bigger now than it was on launch, not that much tho. The main change was how fast it recovered, before after the first few shots you had to pause for a very small amount of time to get the next few shots to be perfectly accurate again, then they made it much longer. I too miss old 17 dmg accurate solider over the 19 more rng one we have now.

I agree, Soldier is kinda meh in comp now. He’s just underwhelming and Moira is a comparable damage dealer, which is just ridiculous.
Soldier also doesn’t have enough damage to punish heroes like Doomfist, Roadhog or Genji before they are close enough to kill Soldier. He needs to be more consistent in dealing damage because right now he’s not that good and on console he’s even worse

Isn’t his dps 95 or something? Moira only does 50.
all spreads in OW are random, one of reasons why reaper is so trash

They need to cut his spread in half and, if necessary, adjust the damage - he’d be less RNG at the ranges where he’s supposed to work (close, medium) but not a complete sniper at long range. Right now, he’s only a bit better than Sombra with 12% less spread. There’ve been so many times I’ve been unable to secure a kill because of RNG spread that would’ve otherwise been a kill if the spread was tighter.

They can’t.
The reason they changed it because some people found a way to abuse with a mouse program or button pressing that they can fire continously without the thing spreading at all.
So it kind of promoted cheating severely for those people who knew how to use and abuse it.
Definitely don’t try playing Bastion then… Recon is slightly more accurate than Soldier at max spread, but Bastion’s spread control is much worse than Soldier. And Sentry mode is significantly larger than Soldier’s spread, and it’s always at max, no spread control whatsoever… pure RNG. It’s so bad, that Bastion gets out-damaged by a half decent Soldier at anything beyond about 25 meters…
I guess Soldier maybe could use a little work, but know that you have it really good compared to arguably the worst hero in the game…
All mid/long range dps are now superseded by Hanzo
Until other heroes get ability that gives them tripple damage on 8 sec cd picking them is just gimping yourself

Takes a bit of skill to shoot with an AK. CS 1.6’s AK spray was worse then today’s. Still fun watching the spray pattern diagram. 
What about every shotgun hero in the game, except Doomfist, who LITERALLY can’t fix their spread into the MAXIMUM SIZED CROSSHAIR at 2 to 5 meters away?

Recoil? Sure, fix that.
Spread? No. We have to deal with much worse.
Since they added the interact button I’d love to see a toggle for perfect burst fire and full automatic. Would make controlling his spread easier and he would be better for long range and if you are good you can deal good damage at medium range as well. Most games let you do this so I see no reason why Soldier can’t get it.

Soldier honestly is one of the more consistent DPS there is. Hitscan weapon, rapid fire of bullets with medium damage per hit so lower variance, burst damage with rockets and a reliable self heal. Visor is the paragon of consistency: up to 50 guaranteed hits 19 damage each.
A good small qol change is welcomed, but I hope 76 gets big changes to his kit. He’s been stale for 10 seasons?..or whatever season we are on.
