Sojourn Uniqueness?

Don’t get me wrong. Getting a new hero is always nice but… What is so special about Sojourn?
What reason do I have to play her over other heroes?

With other heroes it is clear. Sombra’s hack is a special way of interuption, great for ability based heroes. Orisa was at least great tank for pokers that actually got help with the ranged pressure and Ana’s nade was a really cool utility.

But what Sojourn has other dps heroes don’t have? To me she looks like Soldier:77 (Soldier:76 2.0 not including the A.I in custom games).

Idk, it’s nice and all but her kit just doesn’t look special. Her damage gimmick is cool and all but not something too big to pick according.

Half the OW roster is unique. Like their kits can’t be found in other games.

Yeah but in comparison to other heroes in this specific game. What Sojourn has to make her a better pick than others? In a balanced world what Sojourn provides that only she can provide.

In different way, in what situation Sojourn would be the best pick over other heroes without being op in term of balance

If they can’t make them unique I’d rather they not add em - has been a mantra of mine for a while now….

And personally I think they’ve passed that point a while ago - sigma…Ashe…Baptiste….hell echo physically copies other heroes….

Give me new maps….way more intriguing imho

We’d love to answer, but we don’t know.

Because today’s stream existed to tell us we should be ashamed for wanting gameplay from our videogame. And not to actually impart any information about Sojourn.

A better question is: what other heroes have that Sojourn doesn’t.
She is a mix of several dps in 1.

It’s not too hard making new concepts. But I agree that the devs team stopped making unique concepts recently… Echo is a more fair one because she at least act as a spam version of Pharah. Spamming kiter in theory is pretty cool. But I agree that the way she’s balanced and the other 3 are really not unique.

Ashe is the worst example here, she’s Widow 2.0 with power shifts.

Hard to answer. To me Sojourn-Soldier is pretty much the same relation as Widow-Ashe. same thing, but power shifted.

She has several unique aspects, aoe slow, ult that shoots through people, a unique gameplay loop of primary into high damage skill shot. She doesn’t need a niche to be a good character, asking for niche characters got us brig.

The slow debuff seems unique. Could turn her into an anti-Lúcio dps, immobilizing heroes like Rein and Winston while enabling her team to land more shots or flankers.

A Winston that can’t barrier dance is a dead Winston.

Not every character is going to be a never-before-seen style of gameplay. Sojourn is the first railgun hero, like Ashe was the first bolt action rifle. They’re still hitscan but with a unique flavor.

Don’t get me wrong, slowness is cool and all. But what is the difference between that to McCassidy for example…? Both have a small mobility, hit scan weapon (? not too sure if her primary is hit scan but it works similarly) and an anti mobility tools…

Slowness instead of stun is ofcourse cool just… I can’t really find a hero slowness would work differently than a stun. Might just be me…

Ignoring the recent 4 heroes every hero had some sort of uniqueness. Something only it can really did.

Not every hero has to be completely unique in theory , but that’s what the devs did up until recently.
Just feels bad to take a main gimmick of the game and remove it.

If uniqueness is not a main factor why adding new heroes in the first place.

New gun is cool and all but if you make a lot of heroes and give them all a lot of attention, at least be sure they all are really special and not just the same with a bit of power shift…

I thought it was pretty obvious that its for her R A I L G U N. If any she seems like another “High skill, sick montage” type character, the mobility ability could be kinda of interesting but not like a draw point, same for the grenade thing.

But how is it any different than Soldier:76…? According to the gameplay trailer to me it just looks the same…

Why would I ever pick her over Solider…?

to me she’s a mix of soldier and genji, mobility and sustained damage, if anything what reason is there to pick anything else BUT Sojourn? well, first off she’s fps intensive, if you’re able to aim fast moving skillshots then she’s the hero for you and with 5v5 lack of shields you could line up shots against several people at the same time

Honestly, no reason really, the more i look at her kit the more bland it seem. Like maybe in practice it will be good/fun but on paper its just meh.

Don’t get me wrong. She can be useful. I’m not referring to her balance or usefulness. Just her uniqueness.

If Soldier:76 does the same thing as her. Do I really have a reason to pick her specifically over others…? Best test I have in mind is pick 2 heroes only this hero is good against because of a certain unique aspect.

But except for her slide+jump which is nice and all. How is she any different than Soldier…? I mean, I just don’t find any reason to pick her specifically except for “she’s cool”. Just feels like a waist of a new hero to me when there are so many other cool things the game needs so much more…

Her unique CC ability that we will all grow to love obviously

Ok and…? What is different about Railgun Soldier gun for example doesn’t do.

From the trailer looks like same fire rate, probably same damage. What’s the difference…?
