Sojourn - basically Soldier 76 2.0

try and change my mind this isn’t a remake of Soldier 76.

Her video playback of game play looks really OP. Maybe , FINALLY a decent counter to the nasty snipers ? mainly Hanzo who has been basically picked every game?

She felt really weak in the beta. Soldier prenerf was possibly the strongest hero in the game, at least strongest DPS but was still very good postnerf.

She’s definitely not OP. Kind of “meh”, a B tier DPS: useable, but not game changing.

I’ve not seen Sojurn in OWL yet*, but I’ve seen Soldier ALOT. I guess this says anything. Same about so called “OP-Orisa 2.0”: not a single time yet spotted in OWL and these Heroes are not banned or so.

*Chengdu Hunters (of course) picked a Sojurn briefly in an end fight.

soldier pre-nerf was insane and he was used in the owl a lot. i dont watch owl much but are they still on the pre-nerf beta of ow2 or not? i heard that owl players stopped using soldier as much and use other heroes like tracer, widowmaker or reaper

Reaper works better with Zarya/Lucio rush comps, because he doesn’t want to sit at range and poke like 76. Fuel’s best look during the Kickoff Clash was using Zarya/Reaper/Lucio comps, and they looked poop on other comps (like Winston dive).

She is an alternate version of similar heroes that are working in OW and are healthy for the game.
They literally explained all this in the latest Dev Q&A.

They dont mind making heroes that overlap each other. Like alternate versions of current heroes.
More choices of whats working the better and is better for the game. More generalists less niche heroes.

Dont know why people are still expecting some wacky niche abominations that have caused more issues than anything and instead are focusing on heroes that dont rely on some crazy or unorthodox gimmicks to be effective.

I don’t mind overlap in terms of kit, but she’s very lacking in personality (both gameplay and design).

Aside from the railgun — which could be given to any hero, really — she doesn’t really have a style that gives the player a “this is Sojourn” feel, for the most part.

Perhaps if they played more into her power slide and energy generation would she standout amongst the roster? Kind of like rubbing your sock-feet on a carpet to create a static shock: movement builds energy, which then becomes power, would be a good thematic.

They were still on the pre-nerf beta so yeah, 20 dmg/bullet S76.

IMO, she felt very different than when I played 76 or when I play widow or Ashe.
Just because she shoots a certain way doesn’t mean she is a carbon copy of existing heroes.

Not one time did I ever think I was playing soldier 76 or anybody else , she has a unique play style.

Even if you make a new hero that uses soldier 76’s rifle, but his abilities are replaced with mccree’s abilities or widow’s abilities, this new hero would feel totally different from just playing 76 or McCree or widow.

Fair enough. Though, I feel like she’s missing “pizzazz” in both her base model and gameplay.

It feels… uninspiring, for me. As if this wasn’t their best foot forward for designing the hero.

Then again, that can be said for all of the new heroes released in this game’s lifespan…

I changed my mind. She’s not Soldier. She’s Widowmaker.

Spammy machine gun RMB.
Sniper shot LMB.
Has a mobility skill that can be used for horizontal movement and vertical movement.
Projectile set and forget AoE DoT skill.
Ultimate based around their sniper shots.

You’re right, she is just like Soldier…. But worse

Oh sad face, I was hoping for a mean lean counter to this over tuned for over a century we call hanzo spamzo

To me she feels way more mobile than any of the other hitscan or hitscan-ish heroes in the game.
She is constantly moving, jumping around. And has to rely heavily on hitting her shots or she is basically useless.

She is ok atm, maybe she is still a bit underpowered or people need more playtime with her.

They still managed to squeeze a one-shot into her kit (at time of writing). If she wasn’t a variation of S76 I imagine she’d constantly fire murder rays out of her eyes or something. :unamused:

Oh yeah!.. no, if Hanzo (player) can land his shots, he only needs one to put Sojourn away. No ramp up needed.

Could be a bit of column B, but more likely a lot of column A. Blizzard has slowly learned that the secret to making heroes people like is to release them slightly underpowered, and only give them buffs until people stop complaining. People will always cry about nerfs, justified or not, but they love buffs.

That’s what they did when they lowered her cooldown and slightly improved her fire rate.

There was still some inconsistencies with her jump cancel from power slide (it’s possible to get more height out of it), but it that’s what these betas are for and hope on improving.

Yeah, no.

She doesn’t have much verticality. It’s typically difficult enough to get more than 7 meters off the Power Slide. She can’t reach any of the ledges in King’s Row, or any of Widowmaker’s perches. Moira’s Fade Jump Cancel gets more height than her.

By the end of beta, she felts like she hit the sweet spot with the faster fire rate and shorter cooldown on Power Slide. With 15 connected body shots, she usually will have enough charge to eliminate a target with a Railgun bodyshot - which is enough to keep her competitive in opposing 1v1s against similar health targets. Any headshots become an extra bonus.

Against anything else with more health or stronger offensive pressure, she’ll, probably, have a slightly harder time, but I think she was in a good spot there. Anything else would be more fine-tuning (Powerslide Jump Cancel height consistency, maybe a lower cooldown or faster Disruptor Shot).

Her ultimate could go either way. It needed a HUD improvement, but could also go for a longer duration and/or have a set ammo for fully-charged Railgun shots. Something like Storm Arrows, when you have the duration and the maximum ammo. In this case, Sojourn would still have downtime between each shot in Overclock, but longer duration for more steady aim and a maximum ammo supply if you just want to juice it.

But that’s me, it’ll be up to Blizzard to decide there.

Virtually every Damage-role hero has some combo/combination ability to eliminate an opponent, via one-shot or otherwise. That’s kinda the point.

She was dialed back tremendously from the early alpha, and by the time we got a hold of her in beta, she was significantly weaker.

One-shots are not combos.
