Throwing implies intent to lose. You can’t intend to lose by not intending to lose. Playing sub-optimally or making mistakes or playing off-meta heroes is not equivalent to throwing.
Its kinda sad that this has to be pointed out nowadays along with the report page messages.
People in this community don’t know what words mean (see c9), ‘Throwing’ in most reports just means they lost.
Most of the time, the only people who actually throw are the:
“Oh so we are throwing?” in the spawn room who stay inside and spam emotes over someone’s character choice.
It’s almost like this could be solved if reports were investigated by people and not a lazy automated system.
Also punish false reports with heavy penalties
Right?
I mean, imagine this scenario:
You’re 35 years old. You have a wife, two kids, and work 12 hrs a day. When you get home, you help the wife put away dinner and the kids with their homework.
After the kids go to bed, you hop on OW for a game or two, before you spend a little time with the wife, go to bed, and get up to do it all again tomorrow.
Well, obviously, in this scenario, you’re not playing “your best”. You’re probably tired and you make some mistakes here and there, but you’re still trying to do what you can and help your teammates win the match.
Well, for whatever reason, you don’t quite get the win. Your team mates rage at you and say the loss is all your fault. They didn’t like your hero pick and felt like you were throwing the match. So, they decide to falsely report you.
^Sadly, stuff like this happens every day in OW, especially, in Comp. Maybe not to you. Maybe not to me. But I guarantee you, someone, somewhere, has had that happen to them.
This person gets it.
That C9 thing irritates me to no end, and proves how void of meaning anything anyone says has anymore. The same thing happened with “Salt”.
I get that languages change over time, but it’s practically instantaneous. There’s no time to grow, people just instantly start using it wrong and it catches on and loses all meaning.
Soft-throwing is throwing, but pretending not to. So we see you shooting and hiding behind cover, but you’re missing your shots on purpose. We won’t be able to tell you’re actually throwing, hence soft-throwing.
This is just one example.
Whoever said soft-throwing is throwing without realizing it has no idea what throwing means.
Salt is different, it means upset or tilted, and it always has. I have never seen someone use it at the wrong time, only to provoke if the person isn’t mad already. The thing about ‘throwing’ and ‘c9’ is that it loses its meaning through people using it in the incorrect context.
You can tell their intent huh?
Such nonsense . . .
The point is that we can’t tell. People do do this, but who is doing it?
Usually it’s people who simply don’t like their team.
Again, reporting would still be stupid if people are not sure
Which makes it a difficult rut if people were particularly manipulative. I’ve had people tell me they were soft-throwing before, so it’s a real thing.
Sure, there’s a huge part of the population who work 9-5, married with kids, like the scenario above.
Then there’s the person who wants to throw as many games as possible (who may have funky ascii characters in their name), and doesn’t blatantly sabotage the game (IE: Walling people in as Mei, choosing a healer and jumping off a cliff, etc), but does the bare minimum.
Typically these people have closed profiles, funky ASCII characters in their name, and do this FREQUENTLY, because Blizzard doubles the amount of time an account is banned, after each ban. More likely than not, these people have 2-4 (or more) accounts, and when they can’t throw in a 6-stack, they’re either “soft throwing” or in some cases “dual boxing” (grouping with themselves) in order to further skew odds in a loss. OR, they try super-hard on the first point, triggering members of the enemy team into hopelessness, who decide to rage quit, and then the thrower leaves after 2 minutes to avoid suspension, losing SR in the process.
There’s literally hundreds of Discord channels of people who not only engage in all varieties of throwing, they ORGANIZE throwing. Oh, and Blizz’s own LFG channel is blatantly and frequently used for throwing (IE: Road to Bronze X-SR Limit".
As you can see, there’s many different types of throwers, and throwing techniques, and they’re all used frequently in OW, including “soft throwing”.
Soft throwing is a term invented by salty players to justify their abusement of the report feature.
“Well he didnt throw technically but he was playing an off meta hero, so its basically soft throwing. Therefore i can report him for gameplay sabotage.”
The easiest is to go Hog and feed ultimate by using take a breather constantly. While you wait for it to be off cool-down, you can hook people and feel free to ult whenever and the enemies will do the rest for you. You can spam alt fire and no relevant damage will ever be done.
No, I have never done this after someone badgered me to swap to a tank because I was doing “nothing” as Widow. It is just a fantasy of mine.
Edit - My b. No idea why it responded to you. I was trying to reply to truth. Rofl.
Playing double projectile(or reaper/Doomfist) dps into pharmercy is as good as throwing
Do you consider feeding (intentionally or accidentally going in 1-2 v 4-6) as throwing?
Isn’t soft-throwing like more throwing, but making sure it’s not obvious to your teammates? At least, that’s what I always thought it meant.
Soft throwing does exist and does_not_ exist ex one tricks in competitive are soft they are people who are trying to win but if the enemy team is smart enough they would know what counters they should pick against that hero lemme give u an example: genji one trick team has to play around him to help him go through sym torb moira (which counter him instantly and will make team fight 5v6) Thats soft throwing knowing that what you are doing is making ur team not win and not doing anything about it does exist in that logic bow refer back t my first line i said also not exist because according to blizzard logic one tricks is justified and even rewarded more So i would say does it really exists? sorry for my bad english
