My answer? A single player deep in the enemy backlines. Which can totally break a team comp.
So what else stops a widow form just going ham?
If Blizz is not going to address the unfair advantage of single click elimns ruining teamfights then IDK what else to do if I can’t hunt a widow on a Sombra.
There is such a thing as too far and last I learned was that at a 100 meters…that’s really too far.
Also neither Ball, Winston, nor Haz wants to be in the middle of 5 enemy players.
That’s bad for any tank.
Idk. I might play more shields now. But as for dps and support. I’m kinda stumped. I get around good enough on Venture amd Sombra because I hold control and movement in higher regards then aim or predictable gimmicks.
But still. I’m at a loss when the option to one shot my teammates just creates a disadvantage after disadvantagr aftet disadvantage.
Do people understand how hard other heros have to work for that same result?
My dps were very…dumb. had an inexperienced widow that kept trying to duel this experienced widow and a Soljorn who did good damage, but only shot at the enemy tank. I shouldn’t have to explain why these are bad habits.
Enemy widow pops off kills be half a dozen times.
Boom. I go Moia hide in the back and literally did my dps’s job for them.
We won that match but it felt so horrendous having to cover two roles because my dps can’t be bothered to be teammates rather then gun bots.
Try to move in on her, just hope her team doesn’t gank you or she doesn’t see you because you’ll die, she has a overly long range and mobility so if she sees you she can reposition and one shot you or her team will be alerted and you’ll die
Mercy is one of the few supports that can give their full support in a match without necessarily being seen which means Widowmaker always has to deal with shooting someone who can shoot them back, you can’t kill their support.
If you do, Mercy might rez them back. Really any long range hero + mercy is a sufficient combo. Mercy is back to 30% dmg bst again. Kiriko can 2shot Widowmaker as well as she’s the only long range support with headshot damage that strong.
Brigitte is an okay option if you simply want to provide aid to a team while generally making Widow’s time not as easy due to shield. You can close distance under widow fire and since she can’t spam her damage output, you get plenty of time to recharge shield. The idea is you are playing with other dive heroes on Brig to situationally give them aid from range.
Tracer/Genji are still the original dive heroes in the game before Sombra came around and were used well before Sombra ever was. People only started using Sombra really after she got virus because it made killing very easy for even regular players.
Mirroring Widow on Hanzo/Widow is still very possible. The fastest way to kill a sniper is another sniper which is really just a mirror in most cases.
Which is why people have been wanting them changed in some way. My solution is remove hitscan from Widowmaker and make her a projectile shot. Boost her base kit somewhere else.
On maps where she is a must pick? Widowmaker herself and no one else. During normal circumstances so pretty much any other maps, Winston, D.va, Doomfist, Wreckingball, Genji, Hanzo(very neutral match up), Echo, Tracer, Sombra, Lucio, and Kiriko. Still widow herself and being better then the enemy Widowmaker is the preferable way to counter her since she can one shot the heroes I listed who are not tanks.
It’s always about her gun. Even her ultimate is laughable.
But still…that’s a sad excuse to give her so much power in a single shot while the rest of her kit is ignored by the community and the design team as a whole.
Snipers should be fun, not a clunkt cheap tactic with a super focus on a single gameplay trait.
Then we go into gaming philosophy where we ask “Should the collective skills of a person define them as a player or should a single high level in one aspect overcome the collective?”
