Put the pitchforks down this isn’t about the price of the skin why it was breast cancer that got it or why do I have to pay for this skin, it is a questions as to why they chose Mercy to be the one for the pink skin, I get that she’s a doctor but as far as I know she didn’t really do anything about cancer meanwhile there’s Moira who and this is part of her lore
“Over a decade ago, O’Deorain made waves when she published a controversial paper detailing a methodology for creating custom genetic programs that could alter DNA at a cellular level. It seemed like a promising step toward overcoming diseases and disorders and maximizing human potential.”
She literally made huge steps towards overcoming stuff like this, is it because she’s part of Talon meanwhile Mercy is this Angel? Is that seriously all it is? I get that many would call her evil but it doesn’t change my opinion she should have gotten the skin over Mercy.
To end this off I just want to say nice job Blizzard its good to see you promoting stuff like Breast Cancer research! I hope you do more stuff like this in the future! Maybe Moira will get her own Pink skin!
Mercy is easier to convert to the ‘magical girl’ theme.
Mercy is seen as sweetness and light. Moira is amoral when it comes to research.
Really, Mercy was probably chosen because of her name, and because she is seen as a pure healer. It’s symbolic to choose the hero that wants to heal the world and brings people back from death as the one to represent finding a cure for cancer.
Mercy has dedicated her life to helping people and making them well, Moira only cares about her own advancements and achievements.
Not to mention, it’s speculated that Moira took Mercy’s research and findings for her own goals. (similar to Ana and Torb taking Mercy’s staff and making it into a weapon) Assuming that Moira did take her research notes for her own experiments, why would Moira get a skin when Mercy has been the one to do the work?
plus she’s the person with the Save-All Complex, so it makes more sense to give it to her than it is to give it to a person who developed a device to take someone’s life to give it to another.
As much as I love Moira and would love for her to get a skin like that (magic girl Moira would be equal parts ridiculous and disturbing, I would love it), I doubt any sort of charity would want to be associated with her. The morality of her work is questionable at best, after all, and she is part of the leadership of a terrorist organization that wants to throw the world into another war.
She doesn’t though look at her origin trailer and reveal (I can’t remember which one) she says stuff like “unlock the true potential of humanity” and how she’s dedicated her life to science, she isn’t about her own advancements and achievements she’s about the advancement of humanity as a whole
Its common for researchers to reference the work of fellow researchers to help their own research, its not like she’s stealing Mercy’s work in its entirety or something like that.
Your last point is the one with the most weight and nothing I can do to disprove it
Well, moira is an antagonist character, with a history of human experimentation and dubious experiments (kinda like orochimaru in naruto). So putting her for the poster lady of a charity movement wouldn’t go well i think.
Unlike Moira, Mercys advancements in medicine didn’t involve morally dubious studies, were actually peer reviewed and replicatable. She’s a pacifist and presumably, didn’t use human test subjects.
Also, let’s be honest: she’s the most popular hero. Want to get a lot of people to buy a skin? Give it to Mercy. Smart marketing and reasoning from Blizzard.
I totally agree that it should’ve been Moira, but the main factor is just that Mercy is already considered a “waifu” (or something like that). Plus the thought of Moira with those pigtails…
