Well main answer is shes the most hated and annoying hero on console, hell I thought I was meming but I went to twitter and most console players just straight up don’t like her.
I guess like it keeps console meta in check because whenever shes like good or meta on PC things get… They get pretty dicey over here in console land.
Maybe it’s a rank thing, maybe it’s a hero thing? Trauma from ow1 (hell thats my reason).
Basically as long as they keep Sym under wraps they can just worry about there “Main audience” whiiiccch is PC.
(Hoping these Xim changes come soon tho).
From the looks of it it seems Tracer also has a similar problem…
But Sym is like taking everything you possibly could to annoy a console player into 1 hero.

Its likely a conflict of interests between corporate (who dont see Sym as profitable or watchable), pros (who love her as a team TP slave), streamers + some of the playerbase (who are happy when heroes they dont play/like are trash) and most of the playerbase (who see Sym as a bad hero needing buffs).
The devs know they have to rework her. But they cant just rework her Orisa style because they will get criticism for homogenization and popular DPS pandering. But they wont be allowed to rework her within her gameplay fantasy of a defense anti-offense hero either because it would piss off a bunch of streamers and their fanboys/viewers.
But also reworking away her biggest problem, Team TP, means accepting a widespread, massive, historical mistake… which is a very big no no for Blizz.

So why is Sym ignored?
Blizzard must feel threatened by Vishkar Corporation.
I have no other explanation to what’s happening to Lifeweaver and Sym :p…

There’s a great conflict occurring at Blizzard HQ between the Kaplanites who want to maintain the vision that heroes are situational tools in players’ toolbelts, and the Kellerenes who want to move the game forward in a fresh direction.
Except that is not what is happening because the later are clearly more interested on popularity pandering and keeping the status quo meta enforcing that ruined OW1.
Every nerf to Sym has made her even MORE of a situational TP slave, not less.
The ‘‘Kellenite’’ visions seems to be one where popular heroes enjoy to be good everywhere, while unpopular ones are doomed to rot as inferior heroes only useful for a couple gimmicks in their kits.

They’re more than likely planning a rework, same with Junkrat.
They usually refuse to touch heroes that are close to being reworked in their entirety, as previous patterns with Sombra, Wrecking Ball and Orisa are anything to go by.
That’s just my guess though.
It’s clear Alec has unprofessional hatred towards the hero. It’s sad at this point. He wants everyone playing Sojourn.

Not just console. She’s one of the least popular heroes period. There’s like 3 Sym mains left. I’m only slightly exaggerating.
But I actually don’t think that is the answer. I think she’s just problematic. You actually can’t buff her without causing problems. She needs a rework.

She basically can’t be buffed without being a giant pain in the neck for tanks. It’s not just D.Va either. She also is a real pain for shield tanks.
But maybe even more important is that she’s really heavily geared towards a defensive bunker style. There’s some maps that are just Sym maps. She just goes from weak and barely viable to completely OP in her niche pretty easily. And even when she’s really strong on her specific maps or comps she can still be horribly underpowered in general. If you buff her enough to make her generally viable then she’s just way too strong in those situations she’s designed for.
IMO she needs her kit reworked so she has a more generalist playstyle and can be used in a larger range of situations on a wider variety of maps. If she was less niche, she could be buffed to a stronger state. And maybe made less of a tank buster and given more dualist options against other DPS too so she has better options against the other 4 people on the enemy team.

Well that is not her problem. Maybe they shouldnt have removed 1 tank for the sake of sniper/flanker supremacy.
She is not, she hasnt been a defense hero since she was reworked.
In fact, she is a glass cannon with no way to defend herself.
This is historically false.
Sym has been far stronger than she is right now and she has never been anywhere near overpowered.
The only thing that makes her situationally powerful is team TP, which goes unused in most ladder play.
Not to mention that basically everyone agrees now that TP should be made personal and team TP removed from a basic ability.
The one thing keeping her away from being viable in more maps are the very nerfs that you are defending as necessary.
Niche is codeword for weak. Sym has been made even more niche than she was 2-3 years ago through pure nerfing.
3.0 was niche in the first place because it was released as a team TP slave with terrible numbers and no survivability.
The simple explanation is that they dont know how to make sym work. The only time sym was legitimately good, is because she slowed down the pace of the game countering dive and flankers, and blizzard will never, ever, allow that to happen again.

I don’t remember s5 specifically. But generally anytime I start seeing Sym outside of KOTH maps she’s OP in her niche and still somehow bad everywhere else.
She is also bad in KotH in most of ladder play because no one takes team TP.
Eh… My Sym win rate is the highest of any of my heroes that I have any real playtime on. But a big part of that is I only play her on maps she works on. She’s just not a generalist and cannot be a generalist with her current kit.

At some points, yes. Not currently.

Keller doctrine seems to be unequivocal hitscan domination with few exceptions. Not really fresh.
